There are many races, religions, and thoughts. One is against another. The other is for one. It’s the silliness and the awesomeness of the world. I’d like to love such world, and receive everything. But there are those who want to erase things against them. They think of things or people as enemies, and attack them. I think it’s very rude and ridiculous. Fighting is necessary, but it should be for facing oneself. My war is against a word 'discommunication'. We have the fear of isolation. We afraid we couldn’t share our ideas. It’s very basic problem that everyone have. I hate a word 'self-satisfaction'. I believe that everyone, especially artists, always fight against this word. We want to understand each other. It’s our basic desire. And it’s most beautiful thing. Art is communication. I think so. Every kind of arts follows on the idea of understanding each other. Facing arts, we need try to understand. It’s for both side of sending and receiving. If the side of receiving doesn’t want to understand, he or she wants any kinds of 'entertainment' or something…not 'art'. If the side of sending doesn’t want to understand (receivers), the art is the very 'self-satisfaction'! Or it is not art. For me, the music is the religion. I play the music to pray. I pray to share our soul of understanding. I believe in the communication and the link. It means, I think understanding each other is the principle of life. There is a Japanese word called 間 'Ma'. 'Ma' is the meaning of space, emptiness, rest, link, or 'between'. 'Ma' is one of the most important and characteristic values of Japanese. We can enjoy the emptiness because we know it’s where the link is. And we know the link is the key of imagination, also. I believe in 'Kami'. 'Kami' is a Japanese word. It’s similar to 'god', but isn’t. Because god is always only one, but kami is not always. Kami is a kind of the top of the spirit. I believe in Kami of 'the link'. Kami exists BETWEEN one and one. Kukuri doesn’t have any words. What I have are called 'primal voices'. Primal voices are more primitive ways of voices. I shout or cry, and sometime sing, unformed words of my soul. I don’t know any words, but I believe that I have what to tell you. Kukuri is challenging the limit of communication. 久々利 Kukuri |
