My name is David. I work in Wolverhampton with the nicest bunch of people that you could ever wish to meet.
I'm Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter. I've been going to the Molineux ever since my Dad first took me back on Easter Monday 1974 when I was just seven years old (a 3-1 home win against Arsenal in case you were wondering!). I'm now a season ticket holder in the Stan Cullis stand and have since travelled to numerous grounds up and down the UK.
Music and literature have always been passions of mine. I bought my first album when I was seven years old; Slade's "Old, New Borrowed and Blue" from a shop in Walsall called Pandora's Box (later Sundown Records, which sadly is no longer there). My formative musical experiences in infants school were the "Glam Rock" groups and arists of the early seventies: Slade, Sweet, T.Rex, Wizzard, Mud, 10cc, Suzi Quatro, Status Quo - whose singles I bought at the time and still have in my collection!
The first concert I ever went to was in Stoke-On-Trent in 1979. I've been to over 200 since then, the last one being Breathing Space at The Robin2 in Bilston.
I'll always be grateful to my parents and grandparents who introduced me to a wide range of music growing up. My Dad loved Rock N Roll & intoduced me to the music of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Fats Domino, The Shadows, Duane Eddy & Little Richard. My Mom loved Rock N Roll too but she also had a penchant for the gentler end of the musical spectrum; folk, country, classical and show tunes. Their musical tastes met in the middle and introduced me to The Beatles, Motown, Dave Edmunds, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Pop & Northern Soul. My parents even saw T.Rex at Dudley Town Hall! How cool were Mom & Dad!!
I'm a bit of a frustrated English Literature student and enjoy reading biographies and books on self-help, history, music, pop culture, poetry and fiction. I also write poetry when the mood takes me, some of which have been published.
I enjoy playing football when I get the chance or badminton against anyone who will play me! I've also taken part in several charity runs - completing the Walsall Half Marathon (twice), the London Marathon & The Great North Run.
In 2006 I hit the big 4-0, which was a profound experience for me. My own father passed away at age 40, when I was just 15 and so when I reached 40 myself it made me even more acutely aware of how precious, beautiful and transient life is. Life is so short and so I want to savour every minute, every relationship and every experience...
As with everyone, I could say lots more - but it's good for some things to remain a mystery...
