About Me

[Isn't it all?!]I need to do my dishes. Instead Im typing this. I spend alot of time in the digital world. Really, I prefer open spaces, fresh air and long horizons over a monitor in a dark room. I strive to find a balance between the two. I like to ride my bike to work. If you drive carelessly, you might just kill me. I try not to take anything for granted, especially life. I've been to the dark side, and am back now. And I still need to do my dishes...

My Interests

The truth. Unslanted. Reclaiming our country, our state, our rights. Working towards a sustainable future and keeping myself informed so I then know how my actions can support this goal. What does this mean? In capitolism, it means how I spend my money! Who and what am I supporting by buying this burger, this shirt, this gasoline...?! We all do it everyday. But how aware are we? At what cost are the conveniences of our modern world? So when I learn that The Gap operates sweatshops in 3rd world countries which pay children cents a day to make their products, I now understand why the clothes at the Gap are so cheap and with this awareness do not shop there any longer. Simple. I, everyday, can make a difference via the almighty dollar. Little me. We, the consumers (the people), in order to form a more ethical society can change the way multi-billion dollar corporations do business because WE pay them. Their sole purpose is to profit meaning that WE have the power. Im all about utilizing it, how about you?

I'd like to meet:

Someone who likes to do dishes. People who live their lives with an awareness of their impermanence, and with this are motivated to pursue their passions. I generally do not "add" strangers. So send me a message first, okay?

Music:

Nick Cave, Elliott Smith, Tom Waits, The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Sigur Ros, The Arcade Fire, Yo La Tengo, Mojave 3, Portishead, The Cure, Mazzy Star, Nirvana, Vic Chesnut, Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, early Floyd (the Syd Barrett days), David Bowie, The Velvet Underground, as well as the music of Matt Willis and all the many other talented artists whose work I am fortunate enough to have heard but goes unknown by most. Also, I am a big fan of silence.

Movies:

Five Dollar Dog by Jim Ludtke!

The late, great Jim Ludtke, (1954-2004) illustrator, cartoonist, Apple Master, and general weirdo (our kind of people), made this curious piece sometime in 1998. Who knows what purpose it served, but it remains one of the enigmas of Jim's life - mostly forgotten, even by those who knew him. Unearthed and presented now for your pleasure - we can only hope that Jim would be pleased to see the number of downloads. Pass it around and keep it alive!.. ~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~.. ~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~ Pan's Labyrinth. The Fountain- Absolutely beautiful work. The soundtrack too. AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH- much needed information for the masses. Anything written by Charlie Kaufman, including Human Nature, Being John Malchovich, and Adaptation. Wes Anderson's works (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenebaums, The Life Aquatic). The Cohen Brothers Films, in particular O Brother, Where Art Though? Tim Burton's creations. The Corporation, Fahrenheit 911, Bush's Brain and socio-political ..aries in general. I Heart Huckabees- and any movie that prompts me to question "How Am I Not Myself?"

Television:

No thank you. ...well, except maybe "Lost" (forgive me). But I prefer to watch it on DVD and skip the mind numbing commercials.

Books:

Currently reading "Worldchanging: A Users Guide for the 21st Century". George Orwells' "Why I Write". An excerpt: "Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidarity to pure wind". This written over 60 years ago and it could be no more appropriate today... Also finding enlightenment in The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche. Our Western culture is in a state of denial regarding the one thing we are all guaranteed in life- Death! In accepting our finite nature, I am more aware of the infinite. It is liberating. Allows me to live true to those things I value most. If you are open to it, I highly recommend reading this one. Over and over. It has also been helpful in processing the loss of loved ones.

Heroes:

Mr. Fox, my eight grade English teacher whose motto was "Life is a Celebration". The Dalai Lama. John Lennon. Brecca, my 6 year old niece.
