| In Quebec, the Caribbean, Europe; on stage, in song, on the big screen…writer, composer, actor and host Luck Mervil is undeniably one of the French-speaking world’s most recognizable artists.Born in Haiti, Luck started singing at the age of four. He grew up in New York and in Quebec, where he founded RudeLuck, a rap-reggae fusion group that earned many nominations, awards, radio hits, successful tours, and invitations to Francophone festivals in Canada and Europe. The album Pour le meilleur et pour le pire has sold more than 250,000 copies.Luck Mervil’s powerful and confident stage presence won him the part of Clopin in the original French and English productions of the musical comedy Notre-Dame de Paris. His contagious energy and wild popularity have drawn many offers to participate in prestigious major events seen by over a half-million spectators: FrancoFête, the Francophonie games, the Vues d’Afrique film festival, and Quebec’s Fête nationale, among others. He appeared in French director Claude Miller’s Betty Fisher et autres histoires, which won the international critics’ award at the Montreal World Film Festival. In addition to his busy performance schedule, this versatile artist has found time to release two albums in rapid succession: Luck Mervil (a tribute to Quebec chanson) and Soul (a return to R&B).The actor performs in Le goût des jeunes filles, a film adaptation of the Dany Laferrière novel of the same name. After a fifty-plus performance Quebec tour, Mervil recently lauched TI PEYI A, a strikingly authentic and disturbingly sensitive new album blending various Creole styles in order to portray life, love and daily struggles in his birthplace. Its with great succes that the TI PEYI A show premiered in Montreal in December 2005.Luck Mervil is the spokesperson of the Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation’s Haitian aid campaign. | |
