| Hi, and welcome to our space. THE APPLEBY FORTUNE are Dave & Jan Prior. Although we're both born and bred East Londoners, we now live in the small picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey on Cornwall's southern coast. We've also written, played and recorded music together as "ANOVA" and "SILVERTOWN" in the past, but whatever the name, it's always just us and our songs. We love so many different kinds of music - from Industrial right through to the rootsiest Folk, and all stops in between - and maybe it's because of this we tend not to stick to any one particular style ourselves; we simply go with what sounds and feels good to us at the time. That means we've got a pretty varied and eclectic mix of songs which - more by accident than by design - just keeps growing even more diverse as we add to them. So, what do we sound like? Like ourselves. The bottom line for us is whether the sound of what we're doing grabs us or not: if it does, who cares if it can't be neatly categorised or that we can't make ourselves fit into some spurious band profile? So please don't listen to any single one - or even two or three - of our songs and think, "OK, so that's what they sound like, then." Because often we don't. But there are constants - Dave's playing; particularly his unique lead guitar style: Jan's strongly melodic vocals; and our shared passion for the amazingly rich and strange wonderland that is this thing called music. We've released a number of very well-received albums, been interviewed and featured on BBC Radio etc, but it's our passion for the music that'll always and forever stay the main thing. There are artists who are our absolute favourites that we sound nothing like, and then there are artists that sometimes people listening to us say we maybe sound something like, and we think...eh? No way! And then there are all the books we love, the films, the paintings, the places, this whole amazing world of ours...When it comes to our own music, though, we tend to sing and play what we hear from the inside, from within.
