MySpace LayoutsAlphonse Maria Mucha was a leading influence in the art nouveau style of the turn of the century. His work included painting, sculpture, architectural design magazine, poster and calendar illustration. Mucha gave lectures in New York and the Art Institute of Chicago, firmly believing he should share his ideas with students of the arts. Also he was opposed to the cubist revolution. His life long dream of painting the history of the Slavic people was realized when he met American industrialist Charles R. Crane, who provided the financial support for Mucha and his family in Czechoslovakia, the result being twenty large-scale paintings representing the Slavic story.
