| I am an attorney, a teacher, a writer, an artist, a musician, a singer, and poet.....not necessarily in order of importance. I am a widow. I like cats and dogs. I have a large black Lab (mixed with other larger breeds! Big dog! My nieces call him Cujo.....) My Siamese cat of 18 years died last year. I have no children but I have a large, close-knit extended family with many nieces and nephews. My nickname during my hippie years was Sunshine. I am an optimist in every sense of the word. My City has changed dramatically since Hurricane Katrina. We went from roughly about 250-300 thousand people to about a million people in the Greater Baton Rouge area. I worked in NOLA for over a year after Katrina. It was a wild and intense commute, surfing the ocean of traffic each day! I am now back working in BR and the surrounding parishes. Having seen so much death, I try very hard to make the most out of every day. We STILL live in interesting times. Unfortunately, that is an old Chinese curse......to live in interesting times. Movies:It might be easier to list the movies I don't like..... I love the classics like Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Key Largo, The Quiet Man, Breakfast at Tiffany's, All About Eve (and almost any really old Bette Davis flick), Godfather (et al), It's a Wonderful Life, the spaghetti westerns...For a Few Dollars More, A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, then the American follow-ups like The Outlaw Josie Wales, ........well just about any Clint Eastwood movie, any of the Marx Bros movies, anything ancient with Cary Grant or Katherine Hepburn (Bringing up Baby, The Philadelphia Story). Gone With the Wind,To Kill A Mockingbird, Titanic, Good Fellas, Scarface, Bladerunner, 5th Element, Brazil,The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Matrix trilogy, The Princess Bride, You've Got Mail, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seatle, Joe versus the Volcano (a very underappreciated gem.....the creation of the term.."brain cloud"),Raising Arizona, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Fargo, and anything else by the Coen Brothers, Bullets Over Broadway, (in truth, any movie with John Cusack who is a favorite of mine!!!....Have you never noticed the Cusack Connection???), Cat on A Hot Tin Roof, The Long, Hot Summer,The Ghost and Mrs. Muir(this movie was awesome!), The Shootist(One of my favorite John Wayne movies),Harold and Maude, M.A.S.H., Somewhere In Time, Notting Hill, Dr. Strangelove..., and so on and so forth! Television:The Riches (quickly becoming a fav!!!), The Tudors ( it seems a little off historically as Henry was the hot young thing when he was married to his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, and Anne Boleyn was a later love and I think she was during his 40's or at least late 30's.......but hey, the dude is smokin' hot in this show!!!!....so who really cares whether it is total truth!)......Boston Legal, Deadwood ( alas, appears to be history.....pun intended), Sopranos, Brotherhood, Rome, House, Heroes, 30 Rock, Jericho, Bones, The Office, The Closer, Rescue Me, Grey's Anatomy(Seriously!), Saved, Justice,Brothers and Sisters, Ali G Show, Desperate Housewives.... Also was attached to "Dark Angel" and "Angel"(.......but maybe I just like the word "Angel")And "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", "The Colbert Report", and "Real Time with Bill Maher" ( O yes, I definitely tivo! or rather the cable equivalent.) |

Books:Everything by John Grisham, Robert Ludlam, anything by Hemingway, A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole(my absolute favorite!), anything by Jane Austin and Dickens, and in particular, poems by Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, and Edgar Allen Poe. I read both fiction and nonfiction. Love historical works. O I also enjoy science fiction...loved the Dune set of books as much as I loved Tolkien. |

Heroes:My brothers. Two of them died in 2005 but one's still here! My ancient grandmother who died in the 60's but who taught me to love the "now"! Good grief........let's just say a large number of family members........some dead, some still here. I have found in life that so many times the popular "heroes" have feet of clay. I don't care to judge but I don't know that I'd want to emulate a facade. |
