GATO GORDO.(FAT CAT)Liderado por Genaro A. Palacios Clemow, quien desde los 11 años se interesó por la música al escuchar Country y Rock & Roll en el radio. Escucha por primera vez el Blues en la guitarra de Johnny Winter. Forma su primera banda llamada King Blue, y después es llamado por otros grupos como The Truth y Hangar Ambulante. En 1985 forma La Banda de Blues, la cual se presentó en la mayoría de los foros de Guadalajara. Después viaja a San Diego, California, donde es invitado por Mr. Fro Bigham a la Mr. Fro Brigham and His Preservation Band, la cual participa en la campaña presidencial de Jessie Jackson, el primer candidato negro en los Estados Unidos. En esa misma ciudad es invitado por Steve Gonzalez a la banda Shades of Blues .
En 1993, Genaro regresa a Guadalajara y forma Gato Gordo con dos grandes músicos: Javier Soto en la batería y Germán Quintana en el bajo.
Gato Gordo comenzó a tocar en Clubs, Bares y conciertos tales como el tradicional Fiestas de Octubre, el cual desde hace 9 años se presenta el grupo en la Plaza Fundadores.Con una nueva alineación, Gato Gordo graba su primer CD Gato Gordo Vol. 1 (1994) con Roy Rubio en el bajo y Víctor Hugo Orozco en la batería. El disco es premiado en México por una revista que se encarga de la difusión de Blues, Rock y Jazz, en el Teatro del Ferrocarrilero de la Ciudad de México, como mejor debut discográfico del 94 en la categoría de Blues Rock y reciben un trofeo llamado Apartado Nacional. Genaro es invitado en sesiones en Bourbon Street, en Nueva Orleans, en el Club 45 Rythm & Blues, así como en Denver, y a un Festival de Blues en Santa Cruz, California.
Después de varios cambios en su alineación y presentaciones en festivales de Blues en Guadalajara, Zacatecas y Aguascalientes, la banda sigue presentándose en conciertos y temporadas en varias partes de México, hasta grabar su segundo disco ya de manera independiente y distribuido a nivel nacional llamado Gato Gordo Blues Band (2001)con Gustavo Cañedo en el bajo, Eduardo Melgar en la guitarra y Fernando Figueroa en la batería. Este disco mezcla la bien marcada raíz del Blues con estilos como Rock, Country, Jazz, ritmos tradicionales de Nueva Orleáns y ritmos latinos.En el 2003, con Pedro Chaurand (Spiders, Katmandú, Carlos de la Torre) en la batería, se graban algunas presentaciones en vivo de la banda con lo que se recolecta material un disco en vivo: Gato Gordo en VivoEn Julio del 2005, Gato Gordo presenta dos conciertos acústicos en Bélgica, con lo que se abren puertas para una gira por Europa en el 2006.El sonido de Gato Gordo es el Blues y la variedad de estilos que se derivan de esta raíz musical, como Rock, Jazz, Rockabilly, Swing, Country, y mezclándola además con otros ritmos tradicionales de Nueva Orleans.....................................................

GATO GORDO.(FAT CAT) Lead by Genaro A. Palacios Clemow. Genaro began listening to Country and Rock & Roll radio stations at the age of eleven, and heard the blues for the first time from Johnny Winters guitar in 1967. He started his first band called King Blue, and then he was invited to participate in other groups such as The Truth and Hangar Ambulante. In 1985 he formed a band called: La Banda de Blues. Then, he moved to San Diego, California, where he was invited to join the: Mr. Fro Brigham and His Preservation Band by Mr. Fro Bigham himself. This band participated in the Jessie Jackson campaign, the first black candidate for the United States presidency. In that same city, Genaro was invited by Steve Gonzalez to join the Shades of Blues band.
In 1993, Genaro went back to Guadalajara, Mexico and formed Gato Gordo with two excellent musicians: Javier Soto on drums and Germán Quintana on bass guitar.
Gato Gordo began to play in clubs, bars and concerts such as the traditional Fiestas de Octubre festival. With a new set up, Gato Gordo recorded his first CD Gato Gordo Vol. 1 (1994) with Roy Rubio on bass and Víctor Hugo Orozco on drums. This CD was awarded a trophy as best recording debut in 94 by a Mexican magazine in charge of the dissemination of Blues, Jazz and Rock and Roll. This award was given to Gato Gordo at the Railroad theater of Mexico City Genaro has been invited to plenty of jam sessions in Club 45 Rhythm and Blues in Bourbon Street, New Orleans, as well as in various clubs in Denver, Colorado and to a Blues Festival in Santa Cruz, California.
After changing its conformation in several times, and plenty of performances in Blues festivals in Guadalajara, Zacatecas and Aguascalientes the band kept on playing in concerts and short seasons through out the country (Mexico), until they recorded their second CD Gato Gordo Blues Band (2001) with Gustavo Cañedo on bass guitar, Eduardo Melgar on guitar and Fernando Figueroa on drums. This record shows a mixture between the well known Blues with music styles such as rock, country, jazz, traditional New Orleans beats and some latin rhythms.In 2003, with Pedro Chaurand (Spiders, Katmandú, Carlos de la Torre) on drums, the band recorded a new live album called Gato Gordo En Vivo.Gato Gordos sound identity is mainly Blues, but it also takes and integrates all the different styles that derive from it, such as Rock, Jazz, Rockabilly, Swing, and Country mixing it up with other music styles like Reggae and Latin beats. |
