| Every once in a blue moon something original happens in the world of Rock. Drunks Dont Lie is that happening. A gritty, fun loving garage band with a unique and instantly memorable sound, DDL have come out of nowhere to become one of Boston’s fastest rising stars. With their addictive melodies and their tongue in cheek lyrical musings on all things wrong in the world, Drunks Dont Lie proudly carries on the inspired tradition of punk rebellion pioneered by artists such as the Clash and The Ramones.But they do it their own way. Intense and scathing, desperate, humorous and hopeful, Drunks Don’t Lie creates songs that defy classification or boundaries. Happy Hour, DDL’s debut CD, is an inspired hybrid: a classic rock concept album with a modern punk sensibility and sound. The CD revolves around Little Johnny, a frustrated free thinker determined to shine a spotlight on America’s vapid culture and its institutional greed and deceit. Armed with Socratic truth serum, Johnny warns us to reject the bread and circus and embrace our shared humanity before it’s too late.The lyrical message of Happy Hour is embellished in the powerful music and dark, soulful artwork that accompanies it, and the success and appeal of the CD is evidenced by the fact that every song on it has been played by a Boston area radio station. This significant airplay was achieved despite the fact that DDL has no label. Among the biggest local rock stations, WBCN has played Media Man and WAAF continues to play Up the Pole on a regular basis. Longtime WAAF DJ Carmelita had the band in studio as a featured guest and interviewed them for her show, Bay State Rocks. The Drunks have also made their mark on the Internet, with several songs earning top five honors and Up the Pole finishing first on Ourstage, an international online music contest.And they bring it live. Led by their whirring dervish front man Scanna, Drunks Dont Lie launch into every song as if it’s their last. Raw, aggressive, interactive and embracing, a DDL show is highlighted by ubiquitous gang vocals, unexpected arrangements and a fascinating kaleidoscope of rock styles. Motored by the complimentary and distinctive guitar work of Stevie Farmer and Vitamin E, the classic melodic punk bass of Slim and the thump of drummer El Jefe, the Drunks deliver one of the tightest and most energized shows on the circuit. With recent sold out shows, Drunks Dont Lie are witnessing a growing and spreading audience of devotees.
