| Virgile, notre drôle de personnage, trop longtemps hanté par les héros noirs et blancs des films muets de son enfance, semble lui aussi tout droit échappé d’une toile de ciné. Le cinéma muet le captive, le bouleverse, l’attire inexorablement ! Mais comment faire pour rejoindre ces fous inoffensifs, ces inventeurs, ces magiciens d’un autre siècle ? Comment les atteindre et les rencontrer par-delà le temps ?C’est au festival d’Anères, dans les Hautes-Pyrénées, qu’il va trouver une réponse à ses questions, en voyant pour la première fois des films muets accompagnés, en direct, par des pianistes de génie, voire même parfois par des ensembles avec cordes et bois, et enfin, ô suprême révélation ! par un accordéoniste, et non des moindres puisqu’il s’agit de Marc Perrone. Il revient, captivé, plusieurs années d’affilée, se plonger dans la salle obscure et se nourrir d’images et de musiques. Avec son accordéon, il apporte sa petite touche diablotine à la fête, chaque soir, au bar du village.Enfin, poussé par l’équipe du festival, il se décide à sauter le pas. Il accompagne d’abord un court surréaliste de Germaine Dulac, puis un long-métrage de Jean Choux (dans lequel Michel Simon fait ses premier pas !). Entre deux fictions, il accompagne aussi avec émotion et ingéniosité un documentaire inédit sur la Retirada au Festival Confrontation (à Perpignan) et découvre ainsi un autre pan du cinéma muet.Son rêve se réalise enfin sous la caresse de ses doigts sur son clavier d’accordéon : il rencontre ses héros et, mieux encore, les habille, les nourrit, les réchauffe, les grandit !Extrait de The Cameraman de Buster Keaton, accompagné en direct par Virgile Goller :Extrait de "The Cameraman" Add to My Profile | More VideosVirgile & his speaking accordionVirgile, our strange character, for such a long time haunted by the black and white heroes of his childhood’s silent movies, seems to be escaped from a cinema’s screen.The silent movies captivate him, upset him, inexorably attract him! But how to join these harmless madmen, these inventors, these magicians from another century? How to join them and to meet them beyond time?It is in the festival of Anères, in High Pyrénées (France), that he is going to find an answer to his questions, by seeing for the first time silent movies accompanied live by brilliant pianists, even sometimes by bands with stringed and wind instruments, and finally, o supreme revelation! by an accordionist, and not the slightest : Marc Perrone. He returns, captivated, several years, to plunge himself in the obscure room and to feed on images and musics. With his accordion, he brings his small touch to the festival, each evening, in the village’s cafe. Lastly, pushed by the team of the festival, he decides to jump the step. He initially accompanies a surrealist short film by Germaine Dulac, then a full-lenght film of Jean Choux (in whom Michel Simon does his first step!). Between two fictions, he also accompanies with emotion and ingeniousness a new documentary about Retirada with the Confrontation Festival (in Perpignan, France) and thus discovers another side of the silent movies.
