| Mai, Turkish indie-rock band based in Eastern Europe Istanbul-Turkey, formed by singer Gaye and guitarist Can in Istanbul in the year 2005. Performing a different style of music combining native Turkish melodies, vocal technics and instruments with traditional instruments such as electric guitars, drums, etc.
Upon forming the band, they joined the “10th Roxy Music Competition” (which is traditional and considerable in Turkey) and were wortied of Roxy Special Award. Bassist Gökçe and after a while drummer Cem have joined the band in 2006. They have recorded the song “Kaderin Zarlar--” and took part on some tv channels with the video clip they set. In 2007 their first demo “Mai Demo” was released. Their song “Ayna” appeared in a compilation “Alternative-rock from Turkey Vol.1” published by Doublemoon Records in October, 2007. Mai’s songs are self-written, self-played, self-sung. Played several gigs especially in Taksim; Peyote and other places such as Roxy, Balans, Studio Live, university spring festivals...et cetera, and in some big festivals such as Bar----a Rock, Zeytinli Rock.
The name Mai is originated from Ottoman word which means “blue” and as well as “related with water”.

Mai 2005 yili Subat ayinda Can Tan ve Gaye Su Akyol tarafindan kuruldu ve boylece “muzikal ifadenin kurguladigi saydam yolda sonsuz bir seyahat baslamis oldu”. Bu seyahatin basinda, 10. Roxy Muzik Yarismasi’na katilarak, “Roxy Ozel Odulu”nu kazandilar. Ardindan, uzun suren sessizlik doneminde bugunku sarkilarinin bir kismina imza attilar. Cesitli kadro degisikliklerinin ardindan Mai, once Burak Gokce’nin ve bir sure sonra da Cem Gezginti’nin katilimiyla bugunku halini ald--. 2006 yilinda “Kaderin Zarlari” isimli parcayi kaydettiler ve cektikleri kliple bircok kanalda yer aldilar. Kendi sarkilarindan olusan repertuarla; Roxy, Peyote, Balans, Studio Live, Dogzstar, Crimson gibi mekanlarda, cesitli universitelerde ve rock festivallerinde bircok konser verdiler. 2007 yili Haziran ayinda 6 parcadan olusan bir demo hazirladilar ve demo sayesinde oldukca buyuk bir dinleyici kitlesine de ulasmis oldular. Saykedelik ogelerin, 70’lerden yadigar tadin, grunge ruhunun, baskalasim gecirip karisarak Mai’nin ruhuna girdigi bir gercektir.
