About Me |

Award winning artist, Ras Mo is from the island of Dominica. He's of African and Amerindian ancestry. Having toured England, North America and the Caribbean, Ras Mo is a dynamic performance poet, master drummer, recording artist, composer, and theater director.Ras Mo's performances range from spoken word and storytelling to poetry and songs accompanied by drumming , and/or with live or recorded original music.These riveting stage performances combine the folklore and rhythms of the Eastern Caribbean with urban US styles. His lyrics explore the struggles of today's youth, the resistance of the poor to oppression, the pranks of jumbies and other mythic beings, the hopes and grief of immigrants, the need for men to oppose the abuse of women and to value and support their children, and the powers of nature, Jah, and human love. .Ras Mo has published three books of poetry and released his third recording (CD/Cassette), Tjebe/Hold On, in 1998.He is working on a soon-to-be-released CD, Pink & Blue, comprising the musical core of the Pink & Blue performances and teaching curriculum. The Pink and Blue Arts for Violence Prevention Project includes a CD, a full length theater show entitled "TESTIFY", shorter performaces, classroom presentations & workshops and an annual event called "CHANT DOWN DOMESTIC and DATING VIOLENCE" held during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, October (see slide show of CDDV 2006 below).
