About Me

Growing up in the summer during the late 70’s, and early 80’, exposed me to different genres of music. In the Latin scene here are some of the artists or group(s) I loved listening to; Tito Puente, Oscar DeLeon, Ray Barreto, Ruben Blades, Joey Pastrana, Willie Colon, Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, Johhny Ventura, Eddie Palmieri, El Gran Combo, oh wow, The Fania All Stars…need I say more. All I can say is, “Wow” (Flavor Flav impersonation.) I can't forget the Pop Rock era during the eighties. You had some wonderful groups like Survivor, Prince, Duran Duran, U2, Poison, Breakfast Club, Pet Shop Boys, The Police, and artist like David Bowie Cindy Lauper, Belinda Carlisle, Joan Jett (“I love Rock N Roll”) and Richard Marx, yes… Richard Marx. His slow jam called, “Right Here Waiting” was “the jam!”Old School Hip Hop was the best. It really was. It was underground back then. It was really rejected and misunderstood. Some really didn’t understand ghetto music or didn’t want any part of it. You had Afrika Bambaataa, Slick Rick, Whiz Kid (remember “Play That Beat?”), The Beastie Boys, KRS-1, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, The Treacherous 3, Kid N Play, Original Concept (“Can You Feel It”- this was really underground) Kool Moe Dee, Whodini, The Fat Boys, The Skinny Boys (yep look it up) Big Daddy Kane, and LL Cool J…just to name a few. Kraftwerk’s “Trans Europe Express and Numbers” were ground breaking for dance music. I can’t forget about Information Society’s “Running.” That was the Freestyle anthem back then. You Freestyle Freaks know what I’m talking about. I can reflect now about back then of Rudy’s Records Shop in the South Bronx. We used to dance in front of the record shop in roller skates. Those were always fun and accepted. The park parties were the best. The pioneer DJ’s during that time would unscrew the panel on a light post and connect their equipment to get power. Disco, Philly soul, break beats, R&B, Motown, and Hip Hop would play all night in the dark into the early morning. How can I forget the Latin house parties? The apartment would be so packed that when we danced, the floor seemed like it would cave in any minute. I would sometimes pause, and stare at the floor when it would creak or give in a little. My first time on the wheels of steel was in 1987. I spun Hip Hop, Dance, and Freestyle, but House was bliss for me. It had all the elements, I liked. It was smooth, jazzy, soulful, and rhythmic. I've been hooked to House Music ever since and made it my identity when spinning. Long Live House Music! ”In the beginning there was Jack, and Jack had a groove…”
