A Night of Horror International Film Festival actively promotes the work of independent horror filmmakers. We understand that not everyone has access to a large budget, so we will continue to showcase a wide range of films from all budget levels.

A NIGHT OF HORROR ON SHOWTIME:

In 2009, the Sydney-based festival will run for 10 days/nights from March 25th to April 3. Films screening at the festival will compete for several thousand dollars worth of cash and prizes.

FESTIVAL HISTORY:

What began as an idea for a one night only screening of locally produced horror short films (hence the festival's name "A Night of Horror") has since become Australia's leading international horror film festival.

The 2007 festival was held March 23-25, at the iconic Chauvel Cinema, Paddington, and in the atmospheric Auditorium at the Paddington RSL. The Chauvel boasts a 365-seat cinema with state of the art digital projection facilities and a Dolby Digital sound system.

Over the course of the weekend 47 different films were screened, from filmmakers in 10 different countries.

The 2008 festival expanded to screen both feature films and shorts, and ran for ten days in April. Moving to the hub of Sydney's arts scene: the principal screening venue for the 2009 festival was Dendy Newtown Cinema. The festival included an array of parties and special events including a horror filmmaking forum.

Media coverage of the festival has included: Showtime Movie News, People Magazine, Time Out Sydney, Drum Media, 3D World, 2UE Radio, FBi Radio, 2ser Radio, and several local and internet media sources.

Each year the festival tours a "best of" selection of films from the Sydney festival to other venues and festivals both in Australia and abroad. These have included: Revelation Perth International Film Festival (Western Australia), It Came From lake Michigan Film Festival (Wisconsin), Weekend of Fear (France), The Duke Mitchell Film Club (UK). The festival also programmes and promotes special screenings throughout the year.
