| Simple Play Productions was started to spread the word on the vast and eclectic music scene here in the Big Easy and to bring in artists from around the country to share in that scene. I initially founded HOMEGROWN DESIGNS in February of 2006 with my friend Debesh Mallik. Homegrown Designs booked primarily out of the SHILOH on Tchoupitoulas St. two blocks down from world famous Tipitina's. The Shiloh was known for its late night jam sessions and 420 friendly environment. Homegrown Designs was responsible for many of those late nights. We promoted local bands GRAVITY A, GRAPE APE, and FROZEN CONCENTRATE, and also brought national touring artists to town such as underground hip-hop guru SAGE FRANCIS, aesop rock's producer BLOCKHEAD with DJ SIGNIFY, and we also hosted the after-party for FATLIP of the legendary group PHARCYDE, with OMNI of the BLX crew, and GRAVITY A making a guest appearance.
All good things must end sometime and the Shiloh was sold and turned into a dart and billiards pub. Along with the demise of the Shiloh, Homegrown Designs also disbanded; for lack of a better term. As a result of that, I started SIMPLE PLAY PRODUCTION. I wanted to expand from hip-hop and hit all kinds of music; jam, electronic, etc. SIMPLE PLAY booked shows at multiple venues across town including ever popular mix/mash dj GIRLTALK at HANDSOME WILLY's (this was his first ever trip to NOLA and since than he has gone on to play many festivals including BONNAROO, and opening for WIDESPREAD PANIC), EOTO (Michael Travis and Jason Hann of STRING CHEESE INCIDENT) at the HOWLING WOLF, OOAH of the GLITCH MOB at HOWLING WOLF and DRAGON"S DEN, and I even threw a weekly open-mic comedy night at TARANTULA ARMS in the French Quarter.I am currently still booking shows. My goal is to one day throw a festival similar to a VOODOO or BONNAROO but obviously on a lesser scale and with more of a personal vibe to it. Basically, more jam bands and more small local bands.
