I Consider My Sound To Be: Uplifting Vocal & Funky House Coming Up: First SC Project on Open Bar Music feat Ms M "I'll Be Wishing" Oscar P's DJ Blog - New York - Holland - Frankfurt - New York Arnhem, Holland - April 29th-30th 2008. You really have to see it with your own eyes. The Queensday Festival in Arnhem attracts 700,000 visitors each year. We heard all the stories but were unprepared for the sheer massive volume of people. Even the videos and pictures don't tell the whole story, as we were just in one section of the town. We had little sleep for 2 days. DJ's played on various sound stages around the square, some big, many smaller, yet attracting thousands of people to each stage. The atmosphere was claustrophobic, but one of the best events I have ever participated in. 2 hours away the same festival scene attracted 1 million people in Amsterdam taking nothing away from the vibe in Arnhem. Playectra & Oscar P from Open Bar Music produced an incredible line-up of local and international DJs that included Sirkhan, Ivan Robles, Jordan Rivera, Darren Holland, Simon Finnegan, Franky Sweetz, Coll Selini, Chris Salman, Vincent Noval, Maroy. Performers Ama Zedry, and Faada Spooonface held host-mic duties. Speakers pulsated across the town, and could be heard for miles. At midnight we move the DJs inside the Barrio Habana and the party chugs on. The most amazing aspect for me was after it was all over. It's 5am, and I am walking back to my room walking on top a sea of over 500,000 empty plastic beer cups. By 7am the streets were humming with clean up crews all over. By 9am, the streets are clean, all the cups were gone and people are pouring into the town like the event never happened! We have breakfast, a beautiful spread from Mr. Edzy. Then we start all over again. Amsterdam - May 2nd - Producer Jordan Rivera arranges a radio interview in Amsterdam with the guys from FetteSjit (Pronounced Fat Sh*t) Radio. A disturbing show so great I have decided to bring them monthly to Open Bar Radio and showcase what these guys are doing in the USA. The radio hosts who do the entire show in Dutch with splashes of English slang when then have guests are the funniest guys I have heard on radio in a long time. They are passionate about the house and club music scene, and it shows in their work. We finish the show about 6:30 pm, and hit the famous Ming Kee Chinese restaurant in the city center. Which of course puts us in walking distance from the world-renowned red light district. So a tour was in order drinking beers, and window viewing. I thought Arnhem was packed but the RLD was full of tourists with their wives, even some kids as well. Something like that would never happen in the US. It goes to show how advanced the sexual revolution is in Europe. The mind set is totally different when it comes to sex, and how people view it and have it. It was very interesting. Next, we catch the 1 hour train back to Arnhem, for some drinks at Barrio Habana. It's our last night, and we are tired but yet again we are up till 4 am. Frankfurt Germany - May 3rd-May 4th - Marco Petralia from Big City Beats, meets us at the hotel when we arrive. And it's immediately time to go eat. Ahhh yes! But note, thinking of German food as just of a mix of beer & sausage is unforgivable. We forget that many basic American foods got their start in Germany. So we all had to try the weiner schnitzel (with various toppings and sauces), apple wine, bratwurst, and pommes frites. No one was happier than Jessica Bendig, who had talked up the food and drink in Germany for 3 years…. But she was right, Carlos Ortiz, Ivan Robels and I all enjoyed the food & the meal, food and friends were the perfect set us up for some clubbing in Frankfurt while the city gets a bad rep for house music, I say no. Yes you get a ton of techno, minimal & electro, but its Germany people, so, get real, it is what they do! We visited Sven Vath's Cocoon club to hear Josh Wink play a bit, but the crew were in need of some house. At the King Kamehameha Club on Friday with a Defected Party courtesy of Dj Conan Liquid (Liquid People MN2S fame), Bernd Breiter, who runs Big City Beats, holds exclusive rights to the Defected Brand and promotes them in Frankfurt. We met up with King DK who has done remixes for Open Bar in the past. Also King Ka resident Steve Blunt. We had so much fun we decided to go back to King for our last night out. DJ Monique was spinning and in top form; hot female DJ to watch out for. Missed Ralf Gumm (GoGo Music) who played at APT Club down the block on SAT night.
