| www.myspaceeditor.it‘A67 formed as a natural, visceral response to a difficult social condition, witness to the magma of pulsions, events and hardships which characterise Scampia, the rione (neighbourhood) in the northern outskirts of Naples from where the bands hails. Scampia is better known as la sessantasette (the ’67), a reference to the public building law n.167 which, in the 1970s, was responsible for the horrendous concrete conglomerate which is Scampia today - a drugs supermarket devoid of shops and basic services and bleak backdrop to the ongoing turf wars between rival gangs of the omnipresent camorra (the Neapolitan version of Sicily’s mafia, the former being far more notorious both for the reach of its economic empire and bloody tactics). From this degraded situation - but above all from the hopes for the redemption of their rione – rises ‘A67’s debut offering, “’A camorra song’io” (“I am the camorra”, Polosud, 2005), a disc which got the music media humming their praises and attracted a general media following in Italy and abroad. A concept album with sounds that can be traced to the historic, funk movement called “Naples Power” and lyrics in Neapolitan dialect to depict local reality. A powerful first offering that features guest musicians and whose tracks have, and continue to be, chosen for the musical soundtracks of various films, short films and television services. Hundreds of concerts in the past two years and a growing pile of awards. To date, ‘A67 has produced two video clips: “‘A67”, an ironic take on the clan wars, involving local primary school kids whose designs feature in the video-cartoon, and “Voglie Parlà” (“I want to speak”), made together with Amnesty International, it speaks of the wall of omertà (the mafia code of silence) and enforced isolation of global peripheries, weaving in images of infamous walls: between Israel and Palestine, in Berlin and Belfast, dividing Mexico and the United States. Supporting human rights efforts is high on ‘A67’s agenda, the group’s creative talent continuing to filter into parallel projects, collaborating with diverse artists and realities. In 2006, “ALIEN’ACTION. From the periphery straight to the centre”, a musical, theatrical performance with the theme of alienation, performed in community shelters, psychiatric assistance and specific festivals. In 2007, “VOGLIE PARLA’. Against all mafia”, an educational journey discussing legality in schools. Today, ‘A67’s ideas (and occasional brainwaves) keep flowing in the lead-up to their highly anticipated new disc, due out in (European) spring, 2008.------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Rock Mediterraneo: gli ‘A67 sono nati come risposta, naturale e viscerale, ad una condizione sociale difficile, testimoni del magma di pulsioni, di eventi e di disagi che caratterizza Scampia (rione della periferia nord di Napoli da cui provengono), meglio nota come ‘a sissantaset, dalla legge “167” per l’edilizia popolare che ha permesso l’edificazione dell'allucinante agglomerato, supermercato della droga e teatro di un'accesa faida fra bande camorriste. Di questa situazione di degrado ma soprattutto delle speranze di riscatto del quartiere parla il disco d’esordio A CAMORRA SONG’IO (Polosud 2005), accolto da ottime critiche della stampa specializzata e seguito dai media italiani ed esteri; un concept-album (che nei suoni fa riferimento allo storico “Naples Power” e nei testi impiega la forza diretta del rap in dialetto napoletano per descrivere la realtà cittadina) che si avvale della collaborazione di numerosi ospiti (fra cui Daniele Sepe) e le cui canzoni sono state spesso scelte come colonna sonora per film, cortometraggi e servizi televisivi. Oltre un centinaio i concerti negli ultimi due anni e fra i riconoscimenti ricevuti: vincitori del “Premio Siae per Demo” 2004, finalisti di “Video Clipped The Radio Stars” 2005 e del Mantova Musica Festival 2006, vincitori di “Voci per la Libertà – Una canzone per Amnesty” 2006. Due i videoclip finora realizzati: ’A67 (giocato ironicamente sulla “guerra di camorra”, coinvolgendo le scuole elementari della città i cui disegni compongono il video-cartone) e Voglie parlà (realizzato a seguito della vittoria di “Voci per la libertà”, racconta il muro di omertà ed emarginazione imposto alle periferie del mondo intrecciando immagini di muri tristemente noti: fra Israele e Palestina, di Berlino, di Belfast, fra Messico e Stati Uniti, di Via Anelli a Padova). Da sempre impegnati “a sostegno dei diritti umani e contro tutte le mafie”, gli 'A67 crescono ideando anche progetti paralleli, collaborando sempre con molti e diversi artisti e realtà: nel 2006 lo spettacolo “ALIEN’AZIONE. Dallo spazio periferico dritti al centro” (con Mauro Pagani, Francesco Moneti dei MCR...), nel 2007 il percorso di educazione alla legalità nelle scuole “Voglie parlà” (con Amato Lamberti, Nando dalla Chiesa, Roberto Saviano...); in attesa del nuovo cd previsto per la primavera del 2008. ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------- | |
