| A conservationist organization with teeth! When our public lands agencies cower in the shadow of an exploitative livestock industry - its up to the public to demand wise management of OUR public heritage. NEPA, Endangered Species Act, etc. - all laws which protect our common natural heritage and common will. All of them laws democratically established to provide for the public interest in public lands management administration. What's unique about us? We don't back down. In fact, WWP has quite the reputation in the West. Our offensive posture may aggravate those who trash our public land; but for those who care about endangered species, wildlife habitat, the integrity of our streams and watersheds etc. our legal portfolio is pretty impressive. Public lands grazing is directly responsible for the population declines resulting in the listing of 22% of federal threatened and endangered species - that's on par with logging and mining combined There is not a sinlge human activity which results in more species declines and losses than grazing on OUR public lands. Music:This is Spruce MountainThis is what Spruce Mountain will look like after BLM chains. Why chain? BLM claims it wants to prevent catastrophic fires although chaining has almost never been used in the past to reduce fuel. Nope, chaining has always been a way of clearing natural plant communities to make way for more palatable forage that cows like to eat. Many of these trees are 200 - 400 years old. Notice Mesa. Mesa's watchdog role at WWP has been invaluable. Here Mesa poses in front of a chaining that BLM initiated upon our public lands. Mesa enjoys chasing cows off of our public lands and hiking. Luckily, Western Watersheds efforts have resulted in a Temporary Restraining Order. BLM has been court ordered not to chain this beautiful land in northern Nevada until litigation (that WWP brought against BLM) is settled. Spruce Mountain is just one of many projects that WWP works on to bring our public lands management agencies back into compliance with the public interest. All-too-often, millions of acreas are degraded and trashed by industry interests hell-bent on exploiting our land for their profit This is a Pygmy Rabbit Photo: US Fish & Wildlife Service Click the pygmy rabbit to learn about how this listed species is thought to live in Spruce Mountain - |

Movies:Read the Report"The livestock sector emerges as one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. The findings of this report suggest that it should be a major policy focus when dealing with problems of land degradation, climate change and air pollution, water shortage and water pollution, and loss of biodiversity." Check Out The Report that finds that cattle contribute more to Global Warming than transport!!! |
