| Y Que is a fermentation of the Chicana/o experience, the mixture/meskla of indigenous blood and the impact of second class citizenship in colonized America. The newsletter's function is to inform the masses of political/ state injustice, social and cultural awareness, and indigenous education, all with a socialist/ humanist voice. As our antespasados/ ancestors wrote in their ancient codices, it was necessary to approach the divinity, striving to reach the most elevated principle which is wisdom. We are directed to the quest of the meaning of woman, man, and the world. To become the master of the red and black, the colors that gave form to the symbols and the pictures of the codices. Y Que must represent the Chicana/o perspective in its purest form and not leave space open to misinterpretation. Y Que is the twenty first century codice in the continued resistance against Western colonization and globalism. Y Que must capture the faces of the voiceless, the struggle of the worker, and the liberation of the woman. Y Que must promote the richness of the arts, music, and literature. An eclectic array of genres that stem from Chicana/o influence shall be printed. Gender issues, sexuality, and the family structure within the Chicana/o community will be brought to light. The war against ignorance and intolerance has baptized Y Que's inception by fire. Our pen is the weapon of choice and our words are our ammunition. | |
