RECENT NEWS... November Line Up Confirmed! Watch this space... ---------------------------------------------------- October Communion October's Communion was more lively and eclectic than ever. Following up on a massively successful September show, which attracted guests Kate Nash, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Cribs and The Feeling - October saw live performances from the electric King Charles, Davie Fiddle, Elsa Chapman, residents Hot Rocket and Alex Vargas with his band to make it an unmissable occasion. Guest DJ's DJ Pistolet, Rick Hornby and Jay Gelardi provided entertainment between the live acts. ----------------------------------------------------- September Communion Nothing could have prepared us for the visceral onslaught that was September's Communion – we've never seen so many fantastic acts, so many twists and turns, surprise appearances, a veritable soap opera of rock 'n' roll if you will. You and Me, performing their first ever gig in the intimate womb of Notting Hill Arts Club charmed audiences with their Anti Folk ballads and warmed the cockles of even the hardest of hearts. Then came Peggy Sue and the Pirates who blew away every soul in the venue. They were simply amazing, anyone who hasn't seen them drop everything and go and see them right now. Next came the fantastic Jay Jay Pistolet who totally entranced the already spellbound crowd and who received the first sitting ovation I've ever seen. Hot Rocket were next. They rocked the party. Captain Phoenix were supposed to be headlining but unfortunately pulled out last minute due to singer Ben contracting laryngitis. In a bizarre turn of events, when receiving this news from Captain Phoenix's label whilst standing outside the Arts Club, Ben and Nick spotted a member of Blah Blah Blah ducking into one of the second hand record shops on Notting Hill Gate. Thinking on their feet, they introduced themselves and asked if Blah Blah Blah were up for headlining which they said yes to, even though they were also playing in North London that night. Fresh from that gig they stormed the Arts Club and gave an awesome performance. Cheers guys!As if all this drama wasn't enough, next up was the infamous Beans on Toast who actually defies description. Once again sometimes you just have to go and check things out for yourself. All these delights were enjoyed by a beautiful crowd full of friends, family and celbrite (Kate Nash, The Cribs, Sophie Ellis Bextor, The Feeling...) the majority of whom are regulars - cheers for all your support. Example concluded the evening with a perfect DJ set, and everyone went home to bed, tired, a bit drunk and very happy. Cancellations, coincidences, celebrities, and er, a constellation of amazing bands, this was the most amazing Communion to date. And I saw Ian Brown in Marks and Spencers the next day. ------------------------------------------------------------ ---- Taking over from the Revelations Book of Soul at Notting Hill Arts Club Communion promises to be an even bigger better night than its predecessor. In the past few months the night has attracted everyone from The Killers, Cast and the Stereophonics to Alan McGee and Suede, as well as the usual crowd who are finely tuned into the zeitgeist the arts club personifies. |
