About Me |
|
| The origins of Gentlemen Rebels can be traced back to September 2003, when Dom Coyote and Lee Scott Newcombe started jamming together on their first day at Dartington College of Arts. Members came and left, with the current line-up being decided in Summer 2005. The band consists of Dom Coyote (vocals/laptop), Lee Scott Newcombe (bass guitar), Matt Board (clarinet/vocals), Tim Kerslake (guitar/synths), Oliver Emanuel (drums/synths) and Lewis Forder (tenor sax). The Rebels have been playing throughout the South West, commanding large audiences and gaining media attention. The Rebels come into their own when on stage, equally comfortable playing their own brand of improvisation as they are playing their own tunes. Their connection with the audience is profound, as the Rebels consider them to be of equal importance with the music. They have so far recorded two EP's.'The Rebels have a way of connecting with the crowd most other bands can only dream of, once your envolved thats it you can't watch this band from the backline to get the full effect you have to get into the crowd and lose yourself to the sound of dub drum effects, funk-world guitars and spasmodic bursts of clarinet like something straight out of Sun Ra's Arkestra.' - Plymouth Hub'Basically everybody has to see this band, their live show is one of the best performances you will ever see from a local band, to be a part of the crowd is inexplainable at a Rebels show, they capture something only performers like Fela Kuti and Miles Davis could, they are true innovators and I'm sure will go great distances.' - extra-sensory-promotion'Probably one of the best live shows I've seen in a pub for a long time'- Plymouth Herald'They make an inspiringly innovative world-funk-hiphop blend, joining forces with poignant lyrics, captivating flows and a super voice to create a refreshing and captivating sound-TremeloGentlemen Rebels have a really powerful and original sound taking world, funk, hiphop, jazz influences... very fresh, very funky and brilliant performers - they really are a must see!-Loneshark.. width="425" height="350" .. | |
