Kaya-T sind längst kein Geheimtipp mehr.Kaya-T sollte man eigentlich lieber hören als darüber zu schreiben oder zu lesen, denn die Band macht herzlich wenig Aufhebens um sich selbst. Das haben sie auch nicht nötig, denn ihre Musik, ein Stilmix auf Reggaebasis, spricht ohnehin für sich selbst. Die sechsköpfige Band formierte sich vor 3 Jahren, als die Berlinerin Tania Esperanza Hensen nach Weimar auszog, um ihre Stimme an der bekannten Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" ausbilden zu lassen. Damals schon war sie auf der Suche nach dem perfekten Beat für eine Studio- und Liveband, die verschiedene Stile, allen voran Reggae und Soul aber auch Hip Hop und Pop, fusionieren sollte. Mitstreiter fand die Sängerin mit den kubanischen Wurzeln letztlich in den exzellenten Musikern Fabian Stevens (dr), Philipp Martin (b), Michael Behm (git) and Mona Hügel (sax). Zusammen mit Produzent und Keyboarder Kirk McDowell aka Ajani, der bereits mit Künstlern wie Patrice, Max Herre, Samy Deluxe und Fanta4 gearbeitet hat, wurden aus Ideen Songs, aus Songs ein Album. Kollaborationen mit renommierten Musikern wie Izrah Williams, Leon „Mandela“ Duncan und Keith „Roughhouse“ Powell bereicherten das Repertoire, diverse Auftritte in Clubs und Festivals, z. B. als Opener für Mantis, Turbulance und Queen Ifrika, folgten.Beim Hören versteht man schnell worum es geht: Kaya-T vertrauen auf die Musik und auf das, was sie tun. Mit abwechslungsreichen Rhythmen, perfekten Arrangements und expressiven Vocals schnürt die Band ein durchweg tanzbares Wohlfühlpaket, das unaufdringlich aber intensiv, authentisch und ansteckend energiegeladen ist.Love & Respect – die Message ist einfach und dabei universell, im Kleinen liegt das Große, im Einfachen das Wesentliche. Wäre Kaya-T ein Partygast, er würde sich wahrscheinlich klammheimlich durch die Hintertür aufs Parkett schleichen, um dann letztlich auf dem Tisch tanzend und unter anfeuerndem Klatschen doch den Partytiger zu machen.
