About Me

Koloa dub lab presents "From The Vaults".......UNRELEASED (KDLMixes) found hidden away in a dark vault on the KDL Estate and some NEW PROJECTS produced by Ron Rhoades."You Can Surf It (If You Really Want)" by Kauai Surf Band The TakeOffs (www.myspace.com/thetakeoffs) featuring Jamaican rhythm section The Dynamites with Hux Brown on guitar, Jackie Jackson on bass, drummer Paul Douglas and keyboard player Winston Wright's backing track for Jimmy Cliffs rock steady classic "You Can Get It (If You Really Want)" from 'The Harder They Come' soundtrack remade into a surf tune by TakeOffs' guitarist, Ron Rhoades. "Return To Innocence" is a custom KDL Reggae Mix of Enigma's 1994 hit. Also new is a cover of the Heptone's 70's reggae song "Road Of Life" from their 'Party Time' LP redone by The Shakers (www.myspace.com/theshakersreggaeband) and taken from their unreleased CD 'Back To Old School' produced by John Cuniberti and performed by original band members Chris Solberg, Bill Wallace, Janet Small, Don Fulton and singing drummer Ron Rhoades. "Stop That Train" is a KDL 12" re-mix of a tune from the unreleased 'Back To Old School' CD, a reunion of the original Shakers which was produced and recorded by John Cuniberti and has pop singers, Jon Rubin, Tommy Dunbar and Al Chan from The Rubinoos on background vocals. Koloa Dub Lab is a "production" studio belonging to Ron and Ronnie Rhoades on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Koloa Dub Lab is also that studio's record label (KDL). Koloa Dub Lab is also 'KDL Entertainment', a booking connection to all the acts that Ron works with as a singer, musician and producer. If you like one of the acts he works with, you can contact them through him for bookings. The studio grew from replacing recording equipment lost or damaged during Hurricane Iniki in 1992. The old analog (reel to reel) to digital (ADAT) upgrade. The studio moved with Ron and Ronnie as they struggled to make a living and keep their group The Shakers working in the wake of the Hurricane. KDL started in Omao with the sessions that would become The Shakers' "Good Days Ahead" CD (KDLCD 001) Koloa Dub Lab's first release as a record label. Sessions continued when they moved to Koloa Town where Ron also started working with Maui singer Marty Dread which led to Ron's production of Marty's "Reggae For Love" CD. 1995 was the year they moved to Lawai Valley and negotiated the release of a project they had in the Vaults that would become the Honolulu label Hitown Records CD "Strictly Pleasure". In the next few years Ron would produce CD's for The Shakers "Good Days Ahead", rising local singer Alika "Got To Live Life" (KDL002), Loke "Kolohe Girl" Sasil's "Dance To My Music" CD which earned her a 'Best Female Vocalist' nomination for a prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano award. Marty Dread's "Reggae Suite" CD and various tracks that would wind up on his two Hoku nominated "Keiki Reggae" and "On The Beach" CD's. Also ex-Shaker rapper Teomon's 'Hawaiian Music Awards' nominated "The Choice We Make" CD. KDL the record label was suggested to Ron by distributor Olinda Road after the success of "Strictly Pleasure" and as an independant label has released three CD's, The Shakers' "Good Days Ahead", Alika's "Got To Live Life" and "The Best Of The Shakers Volume One" a compilation released in November 2001. Unreleased projects include "The Dubs Of KDL" series, a solo effort by radio crooner Ronnie Rhoades and "The Best Of Koloa Dub Lab" featuring the various artists Ron has produced at KDL. Koloa Dub Lab now features ProTools LE and GarageBand formats and artists currently recording there include The Shakers' original keyboard player/singer Janet Small.....Kauai reggae/rock singer Alika (www.myspace.com/singeralika) also (www.myspace.com/kairoots) also (www.myspace.com/revival), Maui reggae singer and long time KDL patron, Marty Dread (www.myspace.com/martydread), Kauai surf band The TakeOffs (www.myspace.com/thetakeoffs) The Shakers (www.myspace.com/theshakersreggaeband).**All KDL logos were done by Geoff Morris**
