I originally created a myspace account after my daughter suggested I do so :) At first, I figured (just to pacify her, hahaha) I'd make it a site about genealogy (my passion in life). However, once I navigated my way around, I found a multitude of sites in support of our troops. Within a week, I converted my little genealogy space to something much more important than my family history---a tribute to our troops and the most wonderful country in the world... the United States of America. I love and appreciate our troops, and I love and appreciate my country. I am a staunch Republican (and proud of it!), although in my early years I considered myself a de... dem... demo... (God, it's so hard to admit!!) -- ok, a democrat (God please forgive me)!!!
I worked at the National Security Agency for 30 years, having retired in 1997. During my time there (which I still miss to this day!), we basically kept our political opinions to ourselves. No matter who was President during those 30 years, I may not have necessarily respected the man, but I DID respect the office. It wasn't until the 2000 debates that I realized I wasn't a (what I said above -- I can't bear to type it again :) -- but rather, my values and beliefs were the same as those of George W. Bush! Needless to say, I am PROUD to now be a Republican, and I'm extremely proud of our Commander-in-Chief!
During my tenure at NSA, I worked alongside military men and women on a daily basis, and gained the utmost respect for ALL of those who wear the uniform. That respect has grown greatly over the years, and will continue to grow as long as I live!
With that said, I now bring you... my genealogy (hey, this is what people my age do in our spare time :)
I started working on my genealogy back in 1975--before computers and the internet! It's sooooo much easier now, thank God! Along the way, I've found some pleasant surprises---my 10th great-grandfather, William Stone (b. 1603), served as Maryland's first Protestant Governor in 1648. He and his wife, Verlinda, both took action to preserve freedom of religion in Maryland. William's great-grandson, Thomas Stone (my 3rd cousin, 8 times removed), was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and was elected to a seat in Congress in 1783.
My Family History is a work in progress... I have over 14,000 individuals in the family tree at this time, covering 24 generations and more than 2,600 different surnames. However, there are still a lot of empty branches that desperately need tending to!
Surnames of particular interest are: ADELSBERGER, BEASMAN, BUSBY, CAPLES, COLE, CONAWAY, CONRAD, DRESSEL, EMMART, GELWICKS, GRAVES, HODGE, INGERSOLL, McQUADE, MICHAEL, NORWOOD, OWINGS, SHRYOCK, SLAGLE, STOCKSDALE, STONE, VON SCHLEGEL, and WOODCOCK.
Genealogy is not only my hobby... it's my passion!!

REST WELL, MY DEAR COUSIN, FOR YOU ARE NOW IN THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD

HIS CORPS VALUE WAS BRAVERY
Remember that name, because you will be hearing it again, and probably in the form of a Medal of Honor citation.
On Nov. 10, 2004, in 30 minutes of close combat, Marine Pfc. Christopher Adlesperger, a soft-spoken, religious young man who loved poetry and art, attacked an enemy stronghold in Fallouja, Iraq, and killed at least 11 insurgents.
He killed them with his M-16 and with his grenade launcher. He killed them at such close range he could hear the blood gurgling in their mouths and noses.
He killed insurgents who were heavily armed and probably high on drugs — and who had just killed his close friend, Lance Cpl. Erick Hodges.
He protected two wounded squad members from attack and saved innumerable Marines.
When it was over, Adlesperger's face had been bloodied by shrapnel and he had bullet holes in the sleeve and collar of his uniform. He refused to be evacuated until Hodges' body was recovered.
"It was a tremendous bit of fighting," said Col. Patrick Malay, the battalion commander. "He was a quiet kid, but he was remarkable. He was one tough bastard."
For his bravery, Adlesperger is among a handful of Marines who have been nominated for the Medal of Honor in Iraq.
A nomination does not ensure that an award will be made. No Marine has been awarded the Medal of Honor for combat occurring since Vietnam.
The nation's highest recognition of bravery is reserved for those who have shown conspicuous gallantry above and beyond the call of duty. In fact, two-thirds of the Medals of Honor awarded to Marines since the beginning of World War II have been posthumous.
If an award is made to Adlesperger, his too will be posthumous.
A month after the firefight for which he has been nominated, Adlesperger led Marines in storming another building where insurgents were hiding. He was shot in the heart and died instantly.
Only after his death did family members here learn of his bravery. At first they were shocked — this was the same person who had once cringed at the thought of shooting birds on a hunting trip. Then they recognized in the details of the firefight the determined youth they knew and loved.
"That was Chris. Whatever he did, he always went in with the idea that nobody was going to beat him, nobody," said Dennis Adlesperger, 53, his uncle.
