About Me |
|
I have been involved in music and technology since, well, forever. I learned to use a soldering iron before I could write. When I was ten a band moved in next door so I traded amp repairs for guitar and drum lessons. I built my first mixer when I was 13 and I still have a tape of the first song recorded on it (somewhere). I consider myself a producer first, but if I have to pick a primary instrument it would be guitar; however I don't approach music as a guitar player. My medium is audio and music is what we call audio for pleasure. The instrument isn't what makes the artist but the artist creates the instrument - a guitar is just a piece of wood with strings on it, it's the player that makes the sound. Having tried a great variety of instruments, I've seen that it always comes back to the artist. The producer's instrument is the player and everything else including the studio and the engineer. The choices made are no different then a player choosing notes to play, they all influence the final sound of the piece. I picked up the title, "The Reverb King" from the producer (Shane Douglas) on the last CD I mixed. Maybe it was a little over the top or maybe it needed a little more - sometimes it needs a little more to make the point. |

Music:Member Since: 10/21/2006Band Website: wrotethatdown.com Band Members: Various. I'm always looking for good players to work with ... Influences: A Day From My Youth It's summer, six in the morning, Long Island, NY (maybe 1976) The sound of migrating birds wakes me; I go back to sleep A few minutes later... The sound of a four thousand horse-power diesel crane being started. I open my eyes to see the shelves on my wall literally taking flight from the vibration. Knowing there were at least a dozen cranes parked in the sump behind our house last night I wrap the pillow around my head and try to go back to sleep ... The parkway is a half a mile away and sounds like a rushing river with all the morning traffic The radial arm saw screams it's song in the garage as my father works on a project 9 AM Downstairs the coffee pot is perking (not a coughing, spitting automatic machine, this is the real thing) My father will crank up his stereo in a few minutes, it could be anything from the history of recorded music - Maybe today it's Les Paul and Chet Atkins or the Doobie Brothers, it could be anything (he doesn't play the 78s very often anymore but he's told me about buying them when he was a kid - "if you had a quarter you could get the really good quality records" but most of his were from the nickel and dime racks - same songs by lesser artists/labels) As the sun goes down there the crackle of the PA down the street at the little league field The garage next door will soon come alive with the sound of a local band, and that's where I will be. Keeping their amps running and getting lessons on guitar, bass and drums (and life). Don's got a Gold Top Les Paul; cost $357 brand new. Brian's is a Strat, I don't remember the color but it was closer to $400 brand new. And of course the Ampeg Gemini VI guitar amp that I bought from Don when he quit playing, he would only take $40 for it (back then we all thought it was old - 30 years later I still use it). Sounds Like: Just about anything... Record Label: Wrote That Down Type of Label: Indie |
