| ||| 2008 ||| for WWW click ||| www.maria-mashkova ... MUSIC IS MORE THAN JUST A SOUND ... with this slogan, Maria Mashkova dedicates herself to all her projects concerning electronic music. You can discribe her style as a mixture of tribal and progressive house which melts with advanced trance sounds and transportes her specific kind of energy to the crowd on the floor. She loves it when the audience understands it and is open to be taken on a journey through a set! Born in eastern Berlin, Maria, youngest sibling of a multicultural family, of grew up with classical music as daughter of an enthusiastic hobby pianist and as sister of a choir guitarist. First contact with vinyl occurred with an age of six while scanning the record-collection of her parents - Abba to Tschaikowsky. The record-player of the household was thus confiscated, and musical entertainment within the rooms of the family was secured. After the falling of the Berlin Wall, Maria soon got access to electronic music, which she frequently likes to refer to as a kind of digitized classical music, for there are infinite possibilities to interprete the music for oneself and therefore it is very suitable for diving into. It all began in Canada. Because of her triathlon training, Maria moved to the Northern American Continent for one year back in 1997. There electronic music wasn’t very common, so she began to put together several DJ-sets for herself. Basic equipment for this task was an old Technics record player, only being 3% pitchable, an other, only half-functioning player and a double tape deck. Thus the desired sets resulted in a clumsy sequence of tracks, but nevertheless were sufficient as a steady companion on Maria’s running and biking trips. Back in Berlin, Maria immersed herself into working with her newly acquired Gemini-clones and a mixer sold dirt-cheap on a fair, refined her technique and her track selection... the passion was lit up. Finally her efforts led to a feature within Paul van Dyk’s radio program “Soundfiles”, now known as “Soundgarden” on Radio Fritz. First club expirience was collected during gigs in underground clubs. From 1998 to 2000 Maria went on the air with her own radio and TV-Program called “Fragile”, regularly broadcasted on OKB (Offener Kanal Berlin). It was her concern to present an overview over the elecronic music scene here in Berlin.She had interviews with Corvin Dalek, Namito, Jay Ray, Mijk van Dijk and many more. Naturally, party-reviews and publication of events to come also were part of the program. Between 1998 and 2002 Maria had gigs on the Love Parade, e.g. 2001 as winner of the “Mothership Contest” on the love-truck sponsored by Alcatech, where she rocked after winning a big price package the crowd for two hours and was booked for further events as a result. After a break from 2002 on for different private reasons, Maria relaunched 2006 and many things develpoed since than, so for 2008 a several new and exciting projects are coming up, always according to her philosophy “...
