„Pearls“ is the long-awaited first solo album of Blutengel-singer Constance Rudert. As good things do take their time, she purposefully did not make this a rushed effort and, with the help of several studio musicians, worked over one and a half years in the studio to deliver an album that easily surpasses all expectations. Under the harsh but dreamy moniker of “Cinderella Effect”, she dresses up fifteen indie-classics into altogether different, opulent and orchestral new outfits. “The basic idea was to water the often very hard songs down to their very essence, thus revealing their fragile core.” In this way, Rock- and Electro- attacks can become soothing ballads that touch the soul, newly interpreted by a heavenly voice and the female perspective of the charts-approved singer. Two other classy singers have lent Constance Rudert their support on “Pearls”: Coralie Thomas, a trained soprano from Berlin and Katja Gutowski, with her trademark dark vocal timbre, both showing off their talents on one solo song on the album as well. The three singers weave a vocal tapestry that will leave you breathless. Being a veteran DJ, Constance just followed her heart in regard to which songs to cover for the album … and has managed to conjure up an intense selection. The album opens with a clubby version of Tito and Tarantula’s “After Dark” to a rollercoaster ride of emotions. ”Standing”, originally by VNV Nation is turned into an altogether different song, when Cinderella Effect set out to reveal its deep emotional core. Be it the pompous glamour of “Clone Your Lover” (originally by Zeromancer), the experimental approach to Type O Negative’s “Black No. 1” or “Creature of Masquerade” (Jaw), that was transformed to a touching ballad … Constance Rudert proves effectively that she..s a versatile artist and a force to be reckoned with. Mit „Pearls“ veröffentlicht Blutengel-Sängerin Constance Rudert ihr lange erwartetes, erstes Solo-Album. Dabei hat sie sich bewusst Zeit gelassen, und, unterstützt von einer Hand voll Studiomusikern, mehr als anderthalb Jahre im Studio getüftelt, um eine Ausnahme-Scheibe abzuliefern, welche die hochgesteckten Erwartungen in jeder Weise übertrifft. Unter dem träumerisch-ernsten Namen „Cinderella Effect“ werden auf „Pearls“ 15 bekannte Independent-Hits in ein opulentes und orchestrales Gewand gekleidet. „Die Grundidee bestand darin, die oftmals recht harten Stücke auf ihre Essenz zu reduzieren, um ihren zerbrechlichen Kern ans Tageslicht zu fördern.“ So werden aus Rock- und Electro-Brechern plötzlich Balladen, die das Herz berühren, neu interpretiert von der glasklaren Stimme und aus der weiblichen Perspektive der Charts-erfahrenen Sängerin. Unterstützt von zwei Kolleginnen: Coralie Thomas, einer studierten Sopranistin aus Berlin, und Katja Gutowski, mit ihrem unverkennbaren, dunklen Timbre, die beide auf „Pearls auch mit einem eigenen Stück brillieren. Zusammen erzeugen die drei Sängerinnen eine ausdrucksvolle Vokalperformance mit Gänsehautgarantie. Für die Auswahl der zu covernden Stücke hat sich die routinierte DJane Constance ganz auf ihr Fingerspitzengefühl verlassen, und so eine intensive Zusammenstellung aus dem Ärmel gezaubert. Der Einstieg mit dem clubtauglichen „After Dark“ (im Original von Tito & Tarantula) ist der Auftakt zu einer Achterbahnfahrt der Gefühle. „Standing“ etwa, eines der bekanntesten Stücke von VNV Nation, wirkt in der balladesken Form wie eine völlig neue Nummer.
