| Chris Hirth was born in Michigan and grew up in the San Diego, California, area. A few years after graduating from high school, to his great surprise he found that not only had he joined the LDS Church, he had become a Mormon missionary in Japan. He enjoyed Japan so much that after returning to the USA, he went back to school and got a BA in Japanese. He then spent another eight years living in Japan, where he worked as a teacher, an environmentalist, an editor, and a translator, although not necessarily all at the same time. Chris now lives with his spouse and four children in the Pacific Northwest, where he works out of his home as a freelance Japanese-to-English translator. His hobbies are weight training, standup comedy, and writing about himself in the third person. His blog, which boasts a dozen of regular readers, is right here .
