About Me |
db is david pedersen. transplant from vallejo, california, a guy who’s dug a lot of graves (skyview memorial lawns), cooked at finer restaurants in the sf bay area, napa valley, and madison (union hotel, palmer’s, l’etoile, monterey fish, cuckoo’s nest, zuni, taqueria gila monster, domaine, sophia’s), recovering oakland paramedic (acme-western, regional), throat singer at-large. moved to midwest 10 years ago ’cause tom waits said to avoid indiana at all costs. naturally, i thought that’s where i’d start (west lafayette) and moved from there up to madison, wi. cut my rock and roll teeth with a power-cartoon unit called "ngkindheit". i was 34, farming sheep by day and making very popular tacos when i first stepped up in front of a band. at a loss for words, i sufficed to shriek like a manitou. i nurtured the infantilism as best i could. i taught myself throat singing by hollering up at the sky in a new glarus field (singing the birthday party’s "the fears of gun" as i recall). click on ng kindheit to hear where it all began. the character is my screaming landlord. i was the orator in a production of ianesco’s "the chairs" (riveting) and on halloweens i’ll sometimes become a too convincing buffalo bill. i fronted 3bags full/deiagnus for a couple of incarnations. i’ve worked with abandon control, martha stahl, nils bultmann, davenport, stephanie rearick, endless, jon arnold, joann pow!ers, cycropia, uw dance, tom hamer, many others. i hosted "in one end" on WORT for a few years, my 3 hr homage to the wonders of hallucinogenic travel, until my bottom fell off. now i’m back on the air every other sunday with "the weekly world noise". i’m just looking for a career change. nothing major.DIG THIS HIP NEW FILM FROM DAVID KING AND FAMILY! got to see focus open for yes, winterland, ’73. i think it made an impression |

Music:Member Since: 10/30/2006Band Website: skullsofheaven.com Band Members: Influences: god, i'll confess, i grew up listening to "yes" , imitating all the instrumental parts with my mouth, and assembling a mythology from that point. i always dug the busboys over devo. thank god don baird came into my life and introduced me to r.e.m., the birthday party, echo and the bunnymen, minutemen, talking heads, translator, bomb, the sea hags, enrique, the fall, diamanda galas, gang of 4, butthole surfers, meat puppets. from there i found laurie anderson, pixies, bobby mcferrin, tom waits, bongwater, joan labarbara, meridith monk, mike patton, tin hat /2foot/sleepytime, et al, shelly hirsch, jaap blonk, art ensemble of chicago, roscoe mitchell, MATNIA,albert ayler, boredoms melt banana, fIREHOSE, splatter trio, vic chessnutt, ZAPPA, rope, surrealestate. i dove into hip-hop when it was completely not cool for someone in my profession (my friend eric wilson gave me a copy of "911 is a joke" for my graduation from paramedic school). though i've not been much for singing lyrics, i would be remiss to not mention public enemy, KRS1/BDP, digital underground, the last poets, jungle brothers, de la soul, imani copolla, NWA, geto boys. branford's "crazy people music" knocked me the f--- over. i studied my meds to miles and now i can't hear "sketches of spain" without recalling dosages and contraindications and standing orders for field pharmaco-dynamics. david james, john elrod, michael gordon, jonathon grasse, kyle loftus, alison moncrieff, norman brule, josh birnbaum, and carol bever all poured as much music into me as i could handle (like drinks, that was a hell of a lot!). i loved music that churned my insides and i always wanted to shout it out just-so. it just took a while. i played didgeridu for awhile until i figured out how to do it with my face, so i chucked the stick. disregard the previous disclaimer about expletives. i'm finding my way... "Everyone should check out Dave's stuff, as it's truly cool and astounding. And he's the best nature mimic I've ever heard, Tuvans and Yakuts notwithstanding." Steve Sklar, throat singing teacher, khoomei.com "Refreshing, hilarious, great, and quite amazing. This is really great, hearing khoomei in a totally differnt world of music. Very inspirational, really great to share this with all of us. Thanks!" Rowan Heartsuiker, via khoomei.com Featured on muzzleofbees.com:http://www.muzzleofbees.com/index.php?s=db+ pederson "I am so greatful to hear this kind of daring work in these days of fitting into some mold". "A raw, wild force that is so compelling". RhiannonSounds Like: the long track (jimi?) from the butthole surfers hairway to steven lp. except all done with unprocessed voice. bobby mc patton. tuva on the best acid you can find. dogs a block away. birds with opposable thumbs who love to get into mischief.
