Key Frances Key Frances is based out of Los Angeles FOR BOOKING CONTACT Pilar KING SNAKE ENTERTAINMENT 310.924.9587 Born & raised in Seattle, Key grew up exploring the great world of the Pacific Northwest during a time when the old Indian totems still stood tall and proud, when the powerful Indian spirit still breathed freely in nature. One can hear this presence in Key's guitar tone, resonating beyond the mundane. Key's work ethic developed during the summers he spent on a large wheat and cattle ranch. As a child he had to feed the pigs which were bigger than he was. Later he drove heavy farm equipment and fought brush fires. Key's rite of initiation into manhood came via the Marine Core. Based at El Toro, Key became exposed to the vibrant music scene in and around Los Angeles. This was the era when R & B dominated the radio and jazz was at its peak. Sam Cook, the sounds of Motown, and Ray Charles filled the air. He heard Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Sonny Rolands, and Charles Mingus, all live in their prime. This era sequed wayed in to pyschedelic blues ripping on the electric guitar. These great guitar players exploded onto the scene and Key found himself once again immersed in the sound. Now he heard Albert Collins, Albert King, BB King, and Buddy Guy. The inspiration to pick up the guitar came after hearing Buddy Guy in concert. That experience began the long and tenacious process of mastering his craft. His first experiences as a singer/songwriter and guitarplayer were playing between the Robert Cray's sets. While developing his music, Key worked as a cross country truck driver, a railroad brakeman, a commercial pilot, and entreprenured ventures such as running a bus up and down the West Coast. The business was eventually bought by the now infamous Green Tortoise. He also raced cars. www.KEYFRANCES.com This profile was edited with blipsy.com Editor Some Song Translations from The Pyramid Session Live... Music:Member Since: 10/31/2006Band Website: keyfrances.com Band Members: Influences: Sounds Like: These 2 videos were taped during the Live Studio Session for the upcoming release ROUGH & RAW. It is very rare to record like this- all the musicians in the same room... It's actually kind of crazy... and this was down after hours: 3 am to 8 am in the morning after a Friday night gig! Hardcore. We're calling the release ROUGH & RAW 'cause that's what it is.There are 4 songs so far: Amanda, Ramona, Miles runs the Voodoo Down, & 15 mins.Enjoy! and Key would love to hear what you think of it all. Each of Key's releases so far are distinct in their approach and sound. He is a true artist always exploring his own creativity Tiny Sparkles is a major studio album that harks to the time when layers of tone and sound came together and produced greatness. From beginning to end, it is a journey into psychedelic guitar that 'tears it up'. Many musicians came together on this effort: Micah Chappell & Michael Chaves play the drums. Mark Clark does the percussion. Bass guitar- Jim Frogameni, Pete Williams, and even Key. Backup vocals are by Karyna Cragin. ............................................................ ...................................... The Pyramid Session Live is a live and unrehearsed performance, recorded with some of Key's favorite musicians. These talented guys created a beautiful album. All wooden instruments were used to create the earthy tonality in this live performance. There are no overdubs on the guitar, vocals, percussion and cello. Bass was added later by John Gagen. Michael Kott played the bass cello & bow cello while Mark Clark hit the cajon, congas, and is a master of percussion. Key plays an old harmony guitar and a beautiful red guitar that he made. They played one gig together as a band then came together and recorded the album. These songs came from the streets of New York City and the coast of San Francisco, via Burning Man along the way. It was recorded in front of a small gathering of people under a large copper pyramid ceiling during a new moon in Santa Fe, NM. some song translations from The Pyramid Session Live... in The Netherlands ............................................................ ................... Friday Night Road Trip was recorded live at Harvelle's music club in Santa Monica. There are no overdubs or post performances ( just some edits) It contains some of Key's oldest song writing and ends with a nod to the future- which is now here! Michael Turner & Michael Partlow on the drums, Mark Sims & Dug Mug on the bass, and Curtis Byrd on percussion. ............................................................ ................................. The earliest release, other than the very rare Terra Aslym- (if you have you are so lucky!)- Cosmic Garage, which can only be bought at CDBaby, has been called, 'A glorified garage band'. The musicians just hit it. It's the most rock orientated of his albums. Great songwriting can be found throughout. Baird Banner is on the drums & Jeff Nelson is on the bass.
