But thanks to Hollywood, Florida native sons The Woods, this music can be appreciated by anyone within the sound of their voices.Lead singer Sherman Woods (whose vocal styling is charismatic, powerful, and reminiscent of the late great Sam Cooke) says "Our music transcends all age, ethnic and denominational backgrounds. We have a little something for everyone."In 1968 their father and pastor, Bishop Willie Woods recognized the talents of his six sons James, Isaac, Laverne, Randy, Sherman, and Darin and formed The Hollywood Stars in the small city of Hollywood, Florida. Through the years there have been several member changes, however the brothers in the group Laverne, Sherman, and Darin have continued to sing together since the tender ages of 9, 6, and 5 respectively with the addition of Anthony Pitts.The group recorded its first album titled "You're Very Special" in 1985; a dedication to the untimely death of lead singer and brother, Randy. The group's other projects include "Are You A Closet Christian?", "Friendship" and the album "Come Home". Featuring hit songs - Jesus Loves You, Come Home, Are You A Closet Christian, Worthy and Something About That Name - Come Home is a mixture of contemporary and traditional styles. The 13 song CD exhibits the group's versatile style, distinct sound, strong delivery and precise harmony.The latest CD/album "God is With Us" features great testimonial songs such as Jesus You Been Good To Me, Oh Give Thanks, Troubles of the World, Walk Me Through, and The Lords Prayer. | |
