| Formed in May 2003, SALUTETOTHESUN was born from a durham based doom metal band, three of its members deciding that Death Metal was the way forward. The local metal scene in durham was all but dead, so the three members decided to kick the local scene into life, and set about writing death metal songs. After months of rehersals, the band felt they had enough material to enter the studio to record their debut demo, but unfortunately they still needed a vocalist. David (brother of Garry & Johnny) was recruited and soon settled into the ranks and within weeks proved himself to be a valuable asset to the band.
Studio time was booked and the debut demo, Led By Sin (Sep 04) was recorded. Soon after its release, David decided to leave the band to concentrate on being a new father. So the search for another vocalist began. In the meantime the band distributed the demo to zines, labels, bands etc and got a mixed response, some praising it, some slating it (mainly due to a weak production). Having spent months away from the band due to various persinal reasons, the three members resumed rehersals on a regular basis, with the view to recording their second demo. Garry decided he would assume full time vocal responsibilites, so in October of 2006 the band once again booked studio time. The new material showed a marked progression in their song writing skills and a more mature approach to arrangements (the tempo was 'upped' and a 'growled' death metal vocal style was adopted, rather than the 'screamed' approach undertaken on the debut demo). Three new songs were recorded, the result being the second demo 'Dead Already' (Oct 2006). This release was distributed to the metal community (being reviewed in TERRORIZER magazine 5/10) and one track (Dead Already) was featured on the compilation CD 'Poetry of the Dead'. Two months later the band then spent a day in the studio, recording an exclusive track (Sons of Genocide) for Volume 2 of 'Poetry of the Dead', which was released in early 2007. After another brief break from rehersing, the band resumed full time rehersals and once again decided to return to White Wolf Recording to record two versions of the track 'Skiprat Jane'. This song was released specifically for Myspace and will be appearing on one or two compilations (details to follow). SALUTETOTHESUN are now planning to enter the studio again to record a new demo "Destroying The Heavens". The new material sees a significant progression in the bands song writing ability and brutality, now adopting the "BLASTING DEATH METAL" tag as they now make their last demo 'Dead Already' seem very tame in comparison (both musically and lyrically). Songs to be recorded are: P.S.A.S (Persistant Sexual Arousal Syndrome) - Destroying the Heavens - The Man The Martyr - Circle of Despair - And the rivers ran black. Expect a March/April '08 release! MORE NEWS: The band are currently trying out a new vocalist, Stewart (see profile on our top friends). First indications are that he is doing well, starting to learn all the songs! We will announce his full time involvement in the band should rehersals go well - which they look like they're going to!!
