Music:Member Since: 11/21/2006Band Website: maryhd.com Band Members: I was born in Blackburn, England on 14th May 1982 to Pamela and Yunis. This has given me the unique mix of being Scottish, Somalian, Egyptian and Arabic. I have vivid and cherished memories of me performing for my family as a child on many occasions in their living room, dancing and singing, keeping them well entertained. My ambitions derive from the age of 3. I was enrolled for dancing lessons at The Astra Dance Club and then I moved onto Pat Eakets School of Dance. My memories of my childhood have contributed towards the drive and ambition I have to this day!! During this period my poetry writing became more affluent and I found it to be a great release. In 1993, I started at Beardwood High School. This was a turning point for me: I was very much involved in the Arts: design, acting, singing and dancing. I excelled in Drama and received an A* for my GCSE performance playing the role of a teen runaway, The performance was awarded one of only 2 A* for Drama in the North West that year even bringing tears to the eyes of my favourite teacher. My introduction to modeling came at the age of 12. My mum and I had a photo shoot and it was the photographer who stated I had great features and gave me the names of a couple of model agencies to go to and see. I went along but unfortunately at this time I wasnt tall enough to do high fashion. I returned to my quest for a career in modeling at the age of 15. I did a number of charity fashion shows and joined various model agencies. Over the next few years I was photographed for magazines and catalogues. I also participated in fashion shows throughout the UK. As my career in modeling was progressing my poetry writing was developing further into song writing. My first major advertising campaigns came at the age of 19 for Jonny Q and SOS, which saw me travel to Italy and Spain. On my return, I completed filming for a programme entitled 5 go dating, which was broadcast on channel 4/E4 on which I was voted the most popular contestant. I was then offered to do some modelling on Channel M for a fashion feature. This led to an invitation from Channel M to present Shop Manchester. I gained a passion to become a spokesperson against domestic violence and inequalities, including those who are at socio-economical disadvantages. Throughout my life and journey of achievements I want to help others in every way possible! I am a believer that everything happens for a reason and I want to emphasise this, everyone has dreams.
