| The Biography of Ken Bob For the twenty years Ken bob has been associated with sweet harmonies and conscious lyrics. Nothing unusual considering the time spent in the studio flexing with luminaries such as the legendary Beres Hammond, Dennis Brown and Ken Booth. As a result of those associations, Ken Bob has received harmonizing and production credits on several albums released by the above mentioned artist back in the early 70’s Ken replaced Cornel Campbell as the lead singer in the group, the Eternals. Ken’s style has been compared to that of Beres Hammond, due in part to similarity of their subject matter, in addition to Ken’s Lyrical prowess and sweet, harmonizing vocals. Ken’s style is definitely “lovers rock” while simultaneously roots and culture in appeal. His subject matter encapsulates the life of the lay man; his concerns about his woman; the need for brotherly love; the crisis of oppressed people and of courses his love for Almighty. As a result Ken Bob’s sound is distinct jet mellow. His vocal styling is tender enough to evoke emotions, with easy warmth that caresses your sprit. I sing about love of jah, lone for my woman and sisters, and brotherly love among mankind, “Say the Catherinite, who has spent his years living among the people of Spanish Town, Jamaica’s first official capital city. Up in the hills, I’m able to be inspired by the Almighty to write and compose this music, he adds, I’m only a servant of the Lord, a vessel through which this music flows. Needless to say, there’s a magnanimous level of spirituality which emanates from this devout, yet humble Rastafarian. My life mission, he offers is not about material possessions, but about spreading the message of the Almighty. Ken Bob’s uncanny ability to sing not only in a falsetto range, but also in a tenor, is quite unusual for a Reggae artist. That has a lot to do with my love for the Motown and Philadelphia sound of the sixties and early seventies, smile Ken Bob; I just enjoy listening to Smokey Robinson, The Stylistic, and those artists for the era, he concludes. A self-taught guitarist, Ken also played the drums and the piano, along with a few persuasive instruments. Ken’s incredible musical prowess is evident not only in his vocal style but also in his production skills. Not only does he write his own material, he also produces himself, released several tunes such as “In Danger”’ “Lovely Lady”’ and “A Chapter a Day” on his own ASHER Label. Tappa Zukie Released Ken Bob’s album, Heng on in Deh which was well received in Europe. Over yonder was released by Taxi gang, Sly & Robbie and the recent CD release Reggae Rider is a welcome format for the 93 smasher which until recently was only available on vinyl. Reggae Rider was originally released by TDK of Japan in Asia and Distributed by Tuff Gong in Jamaica. The digitally re-mastered CD’s currently available in local record shops. Ken’s numerous appearances in place such as the U.K., Calgary, Canada, Connecticut, Seattle, Washington, and of course, cities all over Japan, has cemented his name and uniquely rich sound in the minds of reggae enthusiast worldwide. In Jamaica, Ken appeared on Reggae Sunsplash, Reggae Carnival, Rebel Salute, Air Jamaica Jazz Festival and Sunfest. On the Air Jamaica Jazz Festival Ken shared the stage with international artist like Alicia Keys Michael MacDonald just to name a few. Ken’s latest offer, EMERGENCY is filled with thirteen conscious, uplifting tunes which will stimulate the listener mentally and spiritually. Radio friendly songs such as “Emergency”’ “Yes I” and “I Love Jah” reveals Ken Bob’s talent as a gifted song writer and accomplished vocalist. Without a doubt “EMERGENCY” will propel Ken Bob’s career into the next millennium, revealing him as one of Reggae’s best kept secrets. Since the release of “Emergency”, Ken Bob has toured Germany and Austria on his return in December 2005, he performed on the Heineken Startime show; he then performed at the Java Motown showcase and evoked the field of Smokey Robinson. He also rocked the Java Produce, Tribute to the “Crown Prince”, Dennis Brown show, (February 4, 2006) plus many others. Ken Bob is currently working in the Studio on some new productions. Good things come to those who wait and it’s only a matter of time before this Reggae rider takes his rightful place on the stage stardom. Peace!
