About Me |
|
| Massimo, the lead vocals of the world famous rockabilly band “ DI MAGGIO BROS ”, was born in Florence , Italy 10th April 1959.
He starts to sing italian songs when he's just 12 years old , but was at the age of 14 that Massimo listened for the first time some Elvis records. A neighbour (a young lady) gave him , some Elvis single records as Are you lonesome tonight, I gotta know , Fame and fortune and others and he was shocked by the incredible voice of the King !
So , from that moment Massimo started to sing in the Elvis style , resembling the King in person, even if he was so young , and when he was 17 formed his first rock'n'roll band : The Sharks.
In this band a young guitarist was moving his first steps to become one of the greatest rockabilly guitarist of all times : Massimo's brother , Marco Di Maggio.
Dressing in leather jackets and putting a lot of grease on our pomps they started performin' in many local parties and clubs, even appearing on the most important stage in Tuscany and in Italy , "BUSSOLADOMANI" where, just the night before , performed RAY CHARLES.
After many gigs and concert in ev'ry part of Italy , the band closed his activity on stage , and Massimo in 1985 become father of Simone .(now lead guitarist and leader of the Astrophonix)
But was in 1997 , that Marco and Massimo decided to start a new project :
DI MAGGIO BROSThe band was born in '97 thanks to the great love for hillbilly music of their originals members: Marco Di Maggio, Massimo Di Maggio and Sasso Battaglia. All these three cats, expert musicians, know how to shake that shack so, after some hot gigs around Italy, they decided to record an album. During the recording sessions, Marco Di Maggio send a demo to Bob Timmers (President of The Rockabilly Hall Of Fame). After listen it, he called them offering to produce the album: Rockabilly From The Boots Up came out during the summer '98, receiving great reviews from the international press.
The Di Maggio Bros. became soon a reality in the rockabilly/country scene receiving many requests for gigs and important festivals as:
THE ROCKIN' 50's FEST - Green Bay - USA 2002
THE ROCKABILLY RAVE '98-'01 - Pontins - UK

During this time Matteo Giannetti replaced Sasso Battaglia on bass. Marco Di Maggio was praised as one of the greatest guitar player all over the world.
Their album Rockabilly From The Boots Up is the BEST-SELLER of the The Rockabilly Hall Of Fame and Bob Timmers says: "With a little luck, The Di Maggio Bros. could be the Straycats of 2000's, they have the key to bring rockabilly music at the top."
Another great comment: "Why American groups aren't this good?! I predict that Rockabilly From The Boots Up will be the CD of '98" (Joe Waigel - Las Vegas).During 2001, after touring all over Europe, the brothers back in studio to record theiDuring 2002 they play at top international meetings, backing also some Rockabilly Legends and in July they perform at the "Rockin' 50's Fest" in Green Bay, Wi, considered by the international press as the event of the century. More than 100 bands on the bill! The Di Maggio Bros., the only italian band included on it.The Di Maggio Bros. please the audience performing a various set ranging from Western Swing/Hillbilly to pure Rockabilly, with strong vocals harmonies, a powerfull slappin' bass and a superpickin' guitar work. Listening to the D.M.B. you can find influences from Elvis vocals style and country vocals harmonies, to great fingerpicking guitar licks, Les Paul and Chet Atkins style. They perform a lots of self-penned numbers as "Sad & Blue", "Groupy Baby" or the manic pickin' instrumentals "High Speed Picking" and "Superpickin' Polka" .
