| The Intelligent Music Department is located in Marquette, on the southern shores of Lake Superior, in Michigan’s remote Upper Peninsula. Our very existence is another testament to the pervasiveness of DJ and dance culture. Who could imagine turntablism extending to the far reaches of rural America? The IMD maintains that the global dance scene is not urban or rural, not black or white, not gay or straight, and not about image, politics, or money. As our scene continues to grow more and more commercial, the IMD will remain dedicated to simplicity, good times, and Love. Strive for expression, not impression.
