"Although his exact age is unknown there have various listing that have confirmed Topon Das' birth date as April 22nd 1974, but it has also been listed as July 6th 1979 as well as October 13th 1982. Topon Das was born in a small town in Sri Lanka as Albert Keen. Both his parents (Ela and Robert Keen) are blind farmers that met on a boat cruise for blind singles. In the late 80's the family moved to Canada after a 6 month infestation destroyed their crops. After 2 years of living in Canada Topon's father was killed while trying to deliver a baby in the back of bus who's driver had suffered a heart attack. The new born baby was the only living survivor of the accident, and Topon's mother adopted the baby boy soon after. In the mid 90's Topon spent 3 years in a Kingston prison for armed robbery. A 4 year substance abuse problem lend to him holding up a Mac Milk corner store for a reported 13 dollars and 75 cent. Upon returning home, Topon started the band Fuck The Facts to record songs he had written during his stay in prison. Though the recordings were crude, FTF still managed to develop a small underground following. In 1998, Topon's adopted brother (Robert jr.) committed suicide. The loss was devastating to the family. Topon's mother ended up in a mental hospital in Toronto where she still resides without any memory of her son, and Topon went on an alcohol binge for the next 2 years. In May 2000 after waking up on the steps of a local church covered in his own blood, vomit and urine, Topon decided Jesus would not take him alive and continued with the activities of Fuck The Facts. The band toured extensively and recorded numerous albums before being picked up by heavy weight underground label Relapse Records. The band recorded it most successful album to date "Stigmata High-Five" in 2006 and continued to tour though out North America. Though some rumors speculate that Topon committed suicide on April 8th 2007 in Syracuse, NY. There are no confirmations to this fact, and the band still continues to tour with what many say is a Topon impersonator."taken from Wikipedia.org |
