While she was shopping, she gave me some money so I could pick out a 7 ” for myself. Instead of checking out the most recent releases, I went straight to a box with singles on sale. There it was, the song my older brother always played, but wouldn’t let me touch. I bought 2 records that day, on sale. One of theme was crap, but he other one... ” My very first 7" Curtis Mayfield - Move on up Rune Refling, born late 1965 in Oslo, the capital of Norway. He has, for over two decades, been one of the most profiled dj’s in Oslo. Startet out as a professional dj back in august ’ 85, spinning with the likes of Sky News Pat Sharp & Gary Davis. During these years, he has been the resident dj at all the major clubs in Oslo.. Kristiania, Barock, Aqua, Buddha Bar, The Cosmopolitan, Neon, Odeon, La Belle Sole, Cosmo..and then some.. In the Kristiania days, he was involved in what would be the most profiled Club concept in Oslo ever. ” Friday Society ” There he played with all the great names, and really found his own way of turning things on the dancefloor. Many international dj’s performed on these nights; Paul Trouble Anderson, Jazzy M, Antony Pappas, Pippi & Cesar, Boy George, Laurent Garnier, Dimitri, Sven Väth, Lippie, Marcello, VanBellen, Remy, Mark Luvdup, Fat Tony, Nicky Holloway, Kjeld Toldstrup, Frankie Foncett, Quinten de Rosario, Derrick May, Stacy Pullen, Peer ...many forgotten.. Friday Society got a new, short life, a few years ago at The Cosmopolitan Club. Rune & his friends were yet again giving the people in Oslo true decadence, with music from Stephane Pompougnac, David de Barce, Lady Kier, Ian Pooley, Dorfmeister, Rainer Truby, Greg Sonata , Cesar de Melero, Ravin & Bobby Hughes Combination. Rune started to spend his savings on records around ’75. A smoking hot 12 ” to play at the local youth club, was like X – mas every time. Some of the promos from ’75, you will still find in his incredible collection of vinyl. Around 15.000 records, from soul to house , makes it one of Norways most valuable collection. His passion for underground soul/disco from the late 70’s and early 80’s. comes to life through his dusted vinyl. Soul & disco has been the essence for Rune’s choice in music since the beginning. That reflects on what he is playing, and the foundation of his sets. There is always a plan behind every track ! His major influence is the legendary Larry Levan, from the NY club Paradise Garage. Not just the fantastic music he played, but all his thoughts on how a club should provide for their guests. To create every little detail, to make the crowd turn their heads. Body & Soul was great, but not even close.....Larry wasn’t there ! On the international scene, he has done gigs in London, Helsinki, Paris & Marbella. He did the opening season for both Nikki Beach & Ocean Club in Marbella, two of europe’s most famous beach clubs. During these summer months he also had regular nights at the club, Pangea, in Puerto Banus. Rune is probably the only dj that have done a gig at My Lady Palace, The Playboy Mansion with a Spanish twist. In London he has played at both Pangea & the legendary Kemia bar at Momo’s. Paris has always been like a second hometown to Rune. He has frequently played around the city, Le Cabaret, La Cantine du Fabourge, Les Bains Douches & Le Milliardaire. Like famous Collette in Paris & Corso Como in Milan, Oslos by far best fashion shop Voga, needs their own cd ! Rune has compiled & mixed 6 editions of ” Fashionpack by Voga ”. These compiltations contains elements from rare lounge, new romantic, obscure disco & mondo exotica. The shop is located on Oslos west side. He has made some of Norway’s best fashion designers happy, by putting togheter the perfect sound for their fashion shows. Rune work regulary with the fashion industry in Oslo, Oslo Fashion Week & Oslo Fashion Awards. Because of his experience in rare lounge & ethnica, Rune does most of the big store openings, brand marketing parties & special after parties in Oslo. When the rich & famous are hosting their birthdays, marriages & season parties, you will most likely see him behind the turntables. Norways most famous street paper, ” Natt & Dag ”, did recently an article, naming him Norways Roger Sanchez ! "; |
