About Me |
|
| "There are no wrong notes; only unintentional right notes." This is a quote taken from a beautiful book by one of the Free Improvisation Missionaries, the late Derek Bailey. It kind of sums up my approach to music; I love free improvisation, the risk, the uniqueness of every musical moment, the tension and attention when I improvise with others, the special moments that emerge, out of nowhere. Don't get me wrong; you will get a lot of booooring stuff too! But.... those special moments.... out of the blue.... magic once again..... maybe just a glimpse, but for me it's enough. The tracks I've uploaded are an example of just that; everything is improvised, nothing prearranged, no verbal communication whatsoever. Some are done alone, using a looper and adding layers, some are with other musicians. But all are a first (and only) take, and editing is resticted to a bare minimum. The quality is what it is, the compression is high; I wanted to get the whole tracks in. I'm always up to experimenting with others; my main instrument is a melodica, which I mike and pass thru effects, like a wah-wah, a delay, a looper. But I'll use WHATEVER is at hand; flutes, voice, shakers, harmonium, harp. |

Music:Member Since: 15/12/2006Band Members: Some stuff I do myself, some with other musicians; Il Flauto di Kalliope is solo, with a looper, rain-stick, recorder, melodica and voice (a little colour with Garage Band...); Sometimes Somewhere is 2 free improvisations one on top of the other, Andrea Kong & myself, with spoken phrases by Dude at the end; Rachel is a free impro with guitarist James Wallce and singer Kerry Fleur, dedicated to a young woman who lost her life for a good cause; Metropolis a free impro with a melodica on an improvised loop by Jimbo on an M1; Basil Extract (all 10:51 of it...) from one of the totally unadulterated free-improvisation sessions with The Oblomov, Rozzano 2003, with Dude holding space, Tom keyboard, Cosimo keyboard and drums, Kong on drums, Jimbo on bass, Stoinoff on sax and me on melodica; Floating Debt & Intro Another extract (this time 13:12!) from the same night, same setup. Influences: Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Mingus, Bill Frisell, GONG, Archie Shepp, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Eno, John Scofield, Dead Can Dance, Huun-Hur-Tu, Indian Classical Music, Ali Farka Toure, Fela Kuti, Ornette Coleman, CODONA, Keith Jarrett, Vidna Obmana, Oblomov, and many many many others... So, a lot of jazz, but also rock, funk, punk, soul; where do you stop? Anything that has soul, depth, colour, passion, intention, sacredness, playfulness, originality, courage.
