| STEVE RYBA features his own original compositions and arrangements of standard jazz, latin, funk & blues in Duo, Trio & Quartet combinations. He is currently performing material that he will feature on an upcoming recording project.This Connecticut native grew up in a musical family and learned trumpet and guitar at an early age. Steve was introduced to the fundamentals of jazz guitar by Mike Zinna (former student of Joe Monk) and Berklee School of Music Faculty Member John Wilkins. He relocated to Rhode Island in 1990 and studied harmony and theory with both Dan Morretti of The Music School and the University of Rhode Island’s Joe Parrillo. In 1998 he attended the National Guitar Workshop's Jazz Summit as a scholarship recipient, where he learned from international recording artists Mike Stern, Rodney Jones, and John Abercrombie. He went on to study improvisation under the tutelage of Boston's renowned jazz educator Charlie Banacos. He has been working and performing as a professional musician for the past 16 years.Steve Ryba has performed with Duke Robillard, Greg Abate, Judith Gilson, Royal Hartigan and the Nightlife Big Band, since first distinguishing himself on the New England scene in 1993. Steve headlined as a featured performer in the Newport Art Museum’s Summer Music Series (2005-07) and performed at the Providence Waterfire with the Nightlife Big Band. Other venues include: Mohegan Sun, the Ritz-Carlton Boston, CAV, Providence Waterplace Park, Newport Harbor Hotel, the Mystic Yachting Center, The Hotel Viking, the Trinity Brewhouse, Rhode Island Convention Center, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Rhode Island, as well as area nightclubs.Steve made an appearance as the guitarist with the Night Life Big Band backing up Claire Danes in the wedding scene from the Focus Features Film titled “Evening.”I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace) | |
