MySpace CodesBIOGRAPHY The one who had first the idea of creating an “open” band was Steve. Together with Ersilio Sali, Steve decided the list of songs and the outlines of their project. They wished to reproduce Bill Evans’s style and atmosphere but they wanted to go a bit further, melting their music with latin rhythms, funky music and acid-jazz; their aim was to free their creativity and improvisation as much as possible. So they started to play with Luciano Tellico (Oct 2004) but then various pianists played with the group and this alternation increased their experience and made them grow or move towards different styles whether traditional or innovative. Their way of playing has always been characterized by a strong empathy and a magic charm on the stage.That is why their live performances best express their peculiarity. Each concert is unique thanks to their interaction with the audience and their deep interplay. Several musicians have played with Lestrio: Carlo Battisti and Gianluca Costa (drums) Andrea Pintucci (bass) Marcello Maranzano and Francesco Mazzeo (guitar), Davide Grottelli (sax), and Antonino Zappulla, Francesca Tandoi, Riccardo La Barbera, Arturo Valiante and Cesare Saldicco (piano).With Arturo Valiante and Antonino Zappulla at the piano, the band has been able to express its contamination with latin sound with elegance, great exactness but also with deep energy. With Cesare Saldicco and Riccardo La Barbera at the piano, on the contrary, the band have explored a mixed atmosphere of jazz and pop melted with contemporary music slightly “free” which give way to a massive interplay among the three performers. Since its first steps LESTRIO has given more than 150 concerts, mostly in Rome and surroundings reaching also destinations such as Maremma (Tuscany) and Castelli Romani. In Lestrio’s future plans there are concerts all over Italy…and not only!! From april 2007 the band collaborates to the project "AZIENDA IN JAZZ" with Erika Leonardi, lecturer and writer of several essays about economy. In may 2008 Ersilio decided to leave the band. Nowadays the band is formed by Steve, Carlo Battisti on drums and the "little big musician" Enrico Zanisi on piano. BIO IN ITALIANO Ad avere l’idea di sviluppare una formazione di trio jazz di tipo open è stato Steve che, insieme ad Ersilio, mise a punto il programma musicale e ne delineò le linee guida. Si volevano ricreare le atmosfere care a Bill Evans, ma anche andare oltre, nella contaminazione con ritmi latini, funky e acid-jazz, di lasciare quanto più spazio possibile alla creatività ed all’improvvisazione. Su questo solco la prima collaborazione con Luciano Tellico dall’ottobre 2004, perfezionata poi con l’intervento di altri valenti pianisti, ognuno dei quali imprime alla band il proprio marchio ora più vicino alla tradizione, ora più innovativo, ma sempre nel rispetto dell’empatia e della magia del palco.Questo perché il Lestrio è una band da ascoltare rigorosamente dal vivo. Ogni concerto è una performance a se stante, nell’interazione con il pubblico, nella profondità dello scambio tra i musicisti. Attorno al Lestrio hanno offerto la loro collaborazione batteristi come Carlo Battisti e Gianluca Costa, bassisti come Andrea Pintucci, chitarristi come Marcello Maranzano e Francesco Mazzeo, il sassofonista Davide Grottelli, e soprattutto pianisti come Antonino Zappulla, Francesca Tandoi, Riccardo La Barbera, Arturo Valiante e Cesare Saldicco. Con Arturo ed Antonino il Lestrio ha espresso maggiormente la propria propensione alla contaminazione con i ritmi latini, con grande eleganza formale, grande precisione, ma anche tanta grinta. Con Cesare e con Riccardo, d’altronde, si sono esplorati maggiormente quegli spazi creativi che vanno dal jazz al pop, alla musica contemporanea, alle istanze lievemente free che permettono ai musicisti validi interscambi. Dall'aprile 2007 la band collabora al progetto "AZIENDA IN JAZZ" con Erika Leonardi, Docente universitaria ed autrice di diversi saggi nell'ambito della difficile "materia" economica. Dalla costituzione ad oggi la band ha eseguito oltre centocinquanta concerti, la maggior parte dei quali è stata concentrata sulla zona di Roma, con qualche puntata verso i Castelli romani e la Maremma… ma nei programmi futuri ci sono concerti in ogni parte d’Italia, e non solo. Dal maggio 2008 Ersilio ha deciso di lasciare la band. Ora la formazione è composta, oltre che da Steve, da Carlo Battisti alla batteria e dal "piccolo grande musicista" Enrico Zanisi al piano. |
