She raised the butcher's knife with both hands theatrically, grotesquely. By this time she could feel her heart beating in her throat. Her temples were swelling, the adrenaline magnifying every second of the urgency of now. And then the horrific happened. The shrill sound of the doorbell drilled into her very psyche.
