Music:Member Since: 4/25/2005Band Members: BIO Rap’ best known lyrical content contains stories about the hood and all that comes with it. From baby mama drama to shootouts; life in the hood isn’t necessarily the worst but it isn’t great either. But there are some exceptions to the rule: especially when that ‘hood’ is a completely different environment defining ‘survival of the fittest’; which is where newcomer rap artist FreDdy The AFrican Prince hails. The term ‘hood’ is considered a loose translation when compared to Nairobi, Kenya; East Africa’ largest city. While most rap artist’s dream of a ‘bigger’ house with way more amenities than should be allowed; FreDdy dreamed of heat, hot water, electricity and decent living conditions. While the ghettos of any American state are laced with empty lots and junk yards; FreDdy’ living conditions were just that. Despite all this he kept his head high and his faith in God grew stronger. Growing Up Nairobi FreDdy developed a great love for music. His older brother, Kevin was the first to introduce him to Tupac Shakur. He spent more than half of his day listening to various types of music, especially reggae. Chance of a Lifetime Finally, at the young age of 13; FreDdy got his walking papers so-to-speak; he was finally headed to America. Even with all of Africa’ most treasured beauty FreDdy was U.S. bound; eager to begin his new life amongst American culture. It was here where he fell in love with Hip Hop. In fact he mentions, "This is all I literally listened to." Influenced by his peers and society, he started writing little poems which later turned into rhymes or better yet, raps. However, even though he spent time writing, it never crossed his mind for him to start With several months of writing under his belt, he then decided to record some of the material he wrote. After some thorough research on the equipment needed, he finally learned how to record songs through his computer. But at this time, FreDdy was not a full grown MC. He even describes his early music as, "pure trash", a statement many of us would not agree with. But at the time, his words reflect most of the negativity that is in the rap industry at the moment; making him less interesting. Life Altering While developing his skills as a rapper, FreDdy was struck with sudden news that would change his life forever. He lost his beloved brother Kevin in March of 2005, the same person who introduced him to music. This had Freddy's whole world falling down on him. Saddened and depressed, he even contemplated suicide. He threw his beliefs in God. The love for his family motivated him to pass threw this horrible time. FreDdy took a break for months from his music, mourning his brother's death, but also doing some soul searching. This is when he made a decision to transform the material in his music completely. He vowed to himself that he would only make music with a positive message. Some may argue that not all his music is positive but he dedicates his time to writing with an educational informative purpose. Grind Mode Now back with a new vengeance, FreDdy The African Prince combined with Billion Dollar Entertainment, has a new heightened awareness and focus.
