| ANTONIO GAMBRELL
How did I end up here???? It’s a question thousands of displaced Katrina survivors are still asking themselves. Antonio Gambrell is no exception. Two days before Katrina, Antonio was packing his trumpet and heading back to New Orleans, where warm weather, good times, and good music were common place. New Jersey at that point was just another stop in the endless touring schedule of with which Antonio had grown accustomed. Before the ripe old age of 28, Antonio and his trumpet had toured North America, South America ,and Europe a couple times over. The Garden State was somewhat of an experiment. Would New Jersey music goers take to the feel good sounds of New Orleans? The answer was yes. Antonio and his musical comrades packed area bars with music starved audiences. Compelled by the potential to impact our area, Antonio has remained in New Jersey to cultivate this newly energized audience. Musicians like Antonio have been scattered all over the map. The world they knew in New Orleans is, for now, a thing of the past .But, the joy of that city lives on in venues all over our country.
