About Me

December 22, 2007 News From PlanetXChill Analog Chill AnalogChill

Greetings to all of our fans and friends.

Welcome to the space of the Analog Chill project. We are Craig and Michelle, working in our own genre, which involves a form of surrealism. We are creating visual images in sound, from visual images. Think of us as impressionist painters, using a microphone.

We want to put people somewhere with our music. Both of us draw very little distinction between music and art. Michelle is very good with the brush. Craig enjoys creating art in wood. It's very hard to define a genre for the Analog Chill project. None of the established genres really fit.

Craig along with Michelle do all the work from conception to final production to PR. The project is always interested in collaborating with other artists. We are here for the experience of sharing what we're doing in the spirit of world peace, harmony and friendship.

Our music is best enjoyed with eyes closed and hifi headphones in a quiet room where your mind is free to roam. We hope you find it enjoyable, thought provoking and mentally stimulating. If you want to know more, we have PICTURES ,and a BLOG .We appreciate all the support and nice comments ! Thanks.

PEACE !

Michelle and Craig

Recent track releases:

Daddy - 12/06/2007 Earth Time

Description:
"Daddy" is our latest release and the seventh track on our upcoming CD "The Modern History of the Third Planet". In this track we are painting a surrealistic picture of Michelle reminiscing about her childhood and a day at the amusement park....now that she is back from the Mothership and her encounter with the aliens. Relax on the couch with a good pair of headphones and you may find yourself reminiscing too. There's a lot buried in the details in this one.

Dreaming Analoga - 11/30/2007 Earth Time

Description:
Dreaming Analoga (Dreaming in Analog) is the sixth track on our upcoming CD "The Modern History of the Third Planet. In This track Michelle has returned from the Mothership and is asleep and dreaming about saving the world. It's a great track to fall asleep to, guaranteed to take you down a few notches. Listen with a good pair of headphones and you'll hear something different in the details every time you listen.

The current track listing for our upcoming CD called "The Modern History of the Third Planet", which is due out in June of 2008 is:
1.) Robot Carol
2.) Mothership Love
3.) Starship Cruzin
4.) Starchild
5.) Underworld
6.) Dreaming Analoga
7.) Daddy
8.) Impressions of Morocco (unreleased)

In August 2007 we released our first full length CD called "Pictures in Sound". You can purchase this CD by clicking the button below. We are shipping the CD's out ourselves and Michelle signs every inside cover for a personal touch. Thanks!

Influences: After growing up listening to mostly rock and roll, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix...and playing most of the same kind of thing on electric guitar, Craig became more interested in Jazz, Brazilian Jazz and then in the late 90's internet radio introduced him to entire new genres and artists. Craig and Michelle really identified with the chillout movement and listened to internet stations like Chillout II New York, The Delicious Lo Fi Lounge, Analog Voyager and others...artists like like Doves, G-Stone artists, Deejay Punc Roc, Gonzalez, Jazzanova, Crustation, Hotel Costes, Naomi Feat, Selda Kaya, Kid Loco, Max Melvin, Mr Joshua Pres Espiritu, Tommy Bass, Tosca, Groove Armada, Sven Van Tees, Imonster (one of my top friends, check out Daydream in Blue and Heaven), DJ Food, Romeo, Safri Duo, Thievery Corporation, Massive Attack, and so many others I left off. Craig also started listening to a wide variety of jazz, mostly 50's and 60's jazz on Dimensions in Jazz which is carried on live365.

Craig and Michelle also have an interest in Reggae, and have an outstanding "roots reggae" home playlist composed of The Heptones, Inner Circle, Jimmy Cliff, Lee Scratch Perry, Linton Kwesi, Jacob Miller, Gregory Isaacs, Third World, Agustus Pablo, Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Peter Tosh, Steel Pulse and of course Bob Marley, the poet.

So as downtempo, trip hop, acid jazz became favorite genres. As production gear became affordable in the late 90's 4 track reel to reel gear gave way to pro quality digital gear and Michelle and Craig began to make their own recordings.

Below are some specific tracks, events and bands who have had a lot of influence on our music.

Pink Floyd-Meddle (we used to listen to echoes while sleeping), Relics, Wish You Were Here, Umma Gumma, Animals
Led Zeppelin-Jimmy Page is a rock/blues/folk god, a master of the repetitive riff and Craig's first inspiration to play music. Watching Jimmy play "Since I've been loving you" in 1973 in Madison Square Garden (on the DVD) is the epitome of rock/blues guitar as far as we are concerned.
Jimi Hendrix-A true musical genius, decades ahead of his time.
Morcheeba-With Skye was possibly one of the best bands ever as far as we are concerned. We have listened to a lot of that. Trigger Hippie? Wow.
Eric Clapton-From the Bluesbreakers to Current. His talent is not of this world. Cream with Eric, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker was one of the greatest bands ever in our opinion.
The Beatles-Greater than the sum of the parts. What can you say. They made art.
Favorite female vocalists include Skye, Linda Ronstadt (from What's New and Lush Life with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra), Sheila Chandra, Vanessa Daou, Merry Clayton singing backup on The Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter in the 70's and again Lisa Fischer singing the same song in recent years. Also, Clare Torry singing backup on Pink Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky, Sarah Vaughn, Deborah Harry, Minnie Ripperton.

Deep Purple-All of Machine Head...one of the single greatest rock albums ever.
Sonic Youth-we like musicians not afraid to take chances. Our favorite is their cover of SuperStar, along with the hard to find "Wildflower Soul" from the Tibetian relief concert.
Vince Guaraldi-A Jazz Great and familiar to everyone from Charlie Brown. A great, great artist. We have all of his work in our personal collection.
Dave Brubeck-Ultra Classic Jazz and great for late nights...
Harry Chapin-The Cat's in the Cradle is one of the best songs ever written.
Janis Ian-At Seventeen...this song leaves an impression that doesn't go away.
Cat Stevens-Master Poet
John Coltraine-My Favorite Things
Deodato- Also Sprach Zarathustra, which was about 20 years ahead of it's time. This is the song that got Craig interested in Jazz.
Stevie Ray Vaughan-Tapped in to another dimension, Live At Austin City Limits Voodoo Child. This is what channeling is. That's a DVD worth having.

Sounds Like: A "45" played at "33".
Like we are going too slow or you are going too fast.
An Itchy foot that needs to be scratched.
A picture you can hear.
Your head nods but your feet won't go.
We will let the air out of your tires for free.
DownTempo, Acid Jazz, Electronica, Impressionist, Surreal, Trip Hop, Experimental, Chillout, Ambient, Laid Back.
