The annual number of accidental gun deaths among children has declined 89% since 1975. Today, the odds against a child dying in a gun accident are a million to one. Seventy-eight times as many children die in accidents involving or due to motor vehicles, suffocation, drowning, fire, bicycles and falls. (National Center for Health Statistics)

NRA is the nation's leader in firearms education and safety training. Since 1982, NRA has trained in excess of 15 million Americans to safely own and use firearms. NRA's Education & Training Division now has over 50,000 Certified Instructors who train about 750,000 gun owners a year. Additionally, nearly 2,300 coaches are specially trained to work with young competitive shooters. NRA works closely with our nation's law enforcement officers and NRA's Law Enforcement Activities Division now has more than 12,000 NRA-certified law enforcement instructors who have trained tens of thousands of our nation's law enforcement officers. Over the past 14 years, NRA's Refuse To Be A Victim® seminars have helped men and women across the country develop their own personal safety plan using common sense strategies. NRA's Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program teaches children in pre-K through third grade four important steps to take if they find a gun. These steps are presented by the program's mascot, Eddie Eagle®, in an easy-to-remember format consisting of the following simple rules: If you see a gun: STOP! Don't Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult. Begun in 1988, The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program has reached more than 20 million children -- in all 50 states. This program was developed through the combined efforts of such qualified professionals as clinical psychologists, reading specialists, teachers, curriculum specialists, urban housing safety officials, and law enforcement personnel. NRA's Women On Target program is designed to create more hunting and shooting opportunities for women. According to National Sporting Goods Association as of 2005 there are 3.2 million women who hunt and an additional 5 million women who target shoot. These numbers are steadily increasing.
