Governor Howard Dean announcing his new organization DFA Democracy for America (DFA) is a political action committee founded by former Vermont Governor Howard Dean after his presidential campaign in 2004. Our vision is focused on political personal empowerment for every American and building a network of progressive candidates to compete in every state and district. To succeed in this, DFA provides training and organizational support to state and local DFA groups nationwide to create a grassroots network that promotes fiscally responsible, socially progressive Democrats at all levels of government. DFA ran Governor Dean’s successful campaign for chairman of the Democratic National Committee. The Governor’s brother, Jim Dean, now chairs Democracy for America. Upcoming TrainingsThe Democracy for America Training Academy is a two-day workshop created to train grassroots activists with the skills and strategies needed to elect Democratic candidates to office. The workshop provides low-cost training for activists and candidates who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford such education from political campaign professionals. Click to check out the current schedule. Aside from the intensive training weekends we hold in cities across the country, the DFA Training Academy also produces Night School. These are live, interactive presentations that you can watch from your computer. Lesson topics range from Volunteer Recruitment to Framing to Online Media. The cost is completely free, and you can download past presentations to watch at your convenience. DVD versions are also available for purchase. _______________________________________ Socially progressive, fiscally responsible candidates endorsed by Democracy for America are known as the DFA-List More than 50 candidates running for office, from a city ward councilman to contenders for U.S. Senate seats, were endorsed in 2006, with over half of DFA-List candidates going on to win office. DFA-List initially began in 2004 as the “Dean Dozen.” The Dean Dozen was comprised of groups of twelve candidates for office officially endorsed by then-DFA chairman Howard Dean. Much like those endorsed in 2006, the Dean Dozen candidates were running for an array of offices. Prominent Dean Dozen alumni include Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer. _______________________________________ DFA-Link is our political social networking website that allows members to meet like-minded people in their area, form groups and organize events much like MySpace does. DFA-Link boasts members in all 50 states with active local groups in 428 of the 435 U.S. Congressional districts. _______________________________________ Internships at DFA DFA is looking for creative, motivated college students who want to help give a new energy to the Democratic movement. Together with local grassroots communities, we are focusing on local races and building the farm team of potential candidates for the future. We are actively seeking interns and volunteers from across the country to help us build the future of the Democratic Party. We have internships available on many of the teams at DFA, including: A group of DFA interns with Gov. Howard Dean If you are interested in interning with Democracy for America please contact: Kyle Duggan operations@democracyforamerica.com Phone: 802-651-3200 _______________________________________ |
