Ageing punk rocker, transformed into reggae music lover during the summer of 1978; while listening to Culture's 'Two Seven's Clash' album. Watched them live the same year at the 100 Club in London's West End and never looked back. Roots man at heart, with a love and passion for the music. Started writing cd reviews for The Spectator magazine in 1996 and Reggae Report. Later for Reggae Nucleus, reggaetrain.com, and reggaesource.com Currently working on a book project with Mikey Dread about his career. It will be presented in an oral history format, consisting of interviews with artists, producers, family, friends and acquaintances. I just got word from Mikey's brother Lloyd, that Mikey passed away last night at 6:30pm on Sat. March 15 2008. A sad day for all family, friends and fans. My deepest respects and heartfelt feelings go to Monika, Zylen and all of Mikey's family. Mikey was a giant of a man in heart and spirit and a true pioneering innovator in reggae music. His talent, knowledge, charm and charismatic voice will be missed, so let his musical legacy continue to speak for itself and we'll keep Mikey in our hearts going forward. 1 Love, Trevor. |
