About Me |
|
| The Healthy School Food Coalition (a program of UEPI at Occidental College) is a group of committed parents, teachers, students, cafeteria workers and community members working to develop comprehensive food and nutrition policies in the Los Angeles Unified School District. There is a direct correlation between what kids eat and how they perform in the classroom. The HSFC is working to improve student nutrition by creating strong, district wide policies to:Include parents, students and the community at large in decisions about food served in schools;Serve fresh, good-tasting, nutritious and culturally appropriate foods in the cafeteria;Make sure students of all income levels receive the same high-quality food;Remove the stigma of eating in the cafeteria;Serve more food grown in school gardens and on local farms;Integrate eating and learning through nutrition education programs. | |
