Edith Salazar ha saltado a la popularidad gracias a su colaboración en el programa de televisión OPERACIÓN TRIUNFO como profesora de canto y Directora adjunta de la Academia de este programa en las ediciones 2005 y 2006 con gran repercusión mediática, sin embargo cuenta con una amplia experiencia artística y docente que ha desarrollado en solitario y junto a los más importantes artistas de la música hispanoamericana. Ella es una artista en su totalidad, no sólo por tener como cantante una de las voces más privilegiadas y fuertes que se pueden escuchar hoy en día, si no también por su talento como compositora, directora, pianista, actriz y maestra de canto, así como por su amplio sentido escénico y teatral. Viene de la escuela clásica, pero ha desarrollado otros muchos estilos como el jazz, blues, bolero, bossanova, rock, pop, etc, hasta crear el suyo propio que es una fusión particular de todos ellos. En Venezuela participó como asistente al director musical y pianista en la Ópera Rock "Josef" de Tim Rice y Lloyd Weber, también compuso la música y dirigió musicalmente la Obra teatral musical "El gato y el canario", por la cual recibió el premio de la crítica. Fué nominada como mejor artista a los Premios "Telón Chivas" en España por su espectáculo musical multimedia “Bolero…cartas de amor y desamor” con el que hizo temporadas en el Teatro “Infanta Isabel”, el Teatro "Lara" de Madrid y el Teatro “Principal” de Barcelona y del que se editó un disco como banda sonora, en él la venezolana fusionó el bolero con la bossanova, el funky y el jazz, además contó con la colaboración en los textos de Espido Freire y las voces en off de Lucía Bosé, Terele Pavez, Loles León, Antonia San Juan, Mariola Fuentes y María Esteve. Como intérprete ha tocado, grabado y girado con infinidad de artistas como Miguel Bosé (Fue teclista y vocalista de su banda durante 6 años) Alaska (Fangoria), Cabaret Pop, Tam Tam Go, Rafael Amargo, José Luis Perales, Sergio Dalma, Simón Diaz, Álex de la Nuez, Ricardo Solfa, La Guardia, Ciudad Jardín, Cool Jerks, Alejandra Guzmán, Javier Corcovado, Joshua Edelman, Rubem Dantas, etc. Como compositora ha compuesto y dirigido la música de los espectáculos “Poeta en Nueva York”(Premio MAX y Mejor espectáculo de la década por los lectores de EL PAÍS de las Tentaciones),( Produjo el disco de esta obra), y "Enramblao" (Premio MAX) para la compañía del bailador Rafael Amargo con la cual ha girado por muchos países. Ha compuesto música para teatro, cine y televisión, "Alí babá" para la compañía de Pedro Reyes, Compañía "Profetas de Mueble bar", Trilogía de películas mudas de Fritz Lang en directo, " Dos Reinas" ( Largometraje), "El duende del globo" para TV1, etc. En agosto de 2003 se estrena como Directora de orquesta Clásica y dirige la Orquesta Clásica “Amadeo Vives” de Madrid en “El Amor Brujo” de Manuel de Falla (Premio MAX) para la Compañía de Rafael Amargo para su estreno en Navarra y temporada en el Teatro Albéniz de Madrid, así como la Orquesta “Filarmonía Barcelona” para la temporada del Teatro Tívoli de Barcelona. Produjo y dirigió también el disco de esta obra. Procede de una familia de Pedagogos y comenzó en la docencia desde muy joven, lleva casi 30 años en la pedagogía musical. Ha sido profesora particular de canto de artistas de reconocido prestigio como Alejandro Sanz, Ella baila sola, Amaya Montero (La oreja de Van Gogh), Bimba Bosé, Roser, Merche Corisco ( España ), Divine, Calle ciega , Estación central (Venezuela ), etc. y ha impartido clases en la Escuela Ritmo y Compás, La Escuela Creativa y El taller de músicos de Madrid siendo la directora del coro de dicha institución durante 4 años. En la actualidad se dedica a la pedagogía vocal dando conferencias y Master Class por toda España, realiza conciertos sobre películas mudas con banda sonora compuesta e interpretada en directo por ella, está en proceso de grabación de su próximo disco, un libro sobre Técnica vocal, prepara su próximo espectáculo que se estrenará en 2008 y el estreno de un cortometraje escrito y dirigido por ella. ABOUT EDITH SALAZAR ( English ) Edith Salazar has jumped into the spotlight after her participation in Spanish TV show OPERACIÓN TRIUNFO as vocal coach and Deputy Director of the Academy, but her performing and teaching experience goes a long way back. She has built a solo career along with the most relevant artists of Hispanic music. Edith is a multifaceted artist; not only is she one of the strongest and most gifted voices that can be heard today, but she is also a talented composer, conductor, pianist, actress and vocal professor with an inherent talent for the scene. She was trained as an academic musician, but she has developed many other styles such as jazz, blues, bolero, bossanova, rock, pop, etc., out of which she has created a unique style of her own. In Venezuela she worked as assistant to the musical director and pianist in Tim Rice’s and Lloyd Weber’s Rock Opera "Josef". She also wrote the music and was the musical director for the theater musical "El gato y el canario" (the Cat and the Canary), for which she received the critic’s award. In Spain, her multimedia show “Bolero…cartas de amor y desamor” (Bolero… letters of love and heartbreak) has been staged in the “Infanta Isabel” Theater, the "Lara" Theater in Madrid and the “Principal” Theater in Barcelona and a CD with the soundtrack of the musical was released. In this soundtrack, the Venezuelan artist makes a fusion of bolero and boss nova, funk and jazz, with participation of Spanish writer Espido Freire for the texts and Lucía Bosé, Terele Pavez, Loles León, Antonia San Juan, Mariola Fuentes and María Esteve in off vocals. As a musician, she has played, recorded and toured with countless artists such as Miguel Bose (she played the keyboards and background vocals with the band for 6 years) Alaska (Fangoria), Cabaret Pop, Tam Tam Go!, Rafael Amargo, José Luis Perales, Sergio Dalma, Simón Diaz, Álex De La Nuez, Ricardo Solfa, La Guardia, Ciudad Jardín, Cool Jerks, Alejandra Guzmán, Javier Corcovado, Joshua Edelman, Rubem Dantas, etc. As a composer, she wrote and conducted the music for the shows “Poeta en Nueva York” (Poet in New York) and "Enramblao" for the company of Spanish dancer Rafael Amargo with whom she went on tour through several countries. She has written music for theater, movies and television, "Alí babá" for Pedro Reyes’ Company, the "Profetas de Mueble bar" Company, for three Fritz Lang movies played live, for the movie "Dos Reinas" (two Queens), for "El duende del globo" for TV1, etc. In august 2003 Edith conducted “Amadeo Vives” Classical Orchestra of Madrid in “El Amor Brujo” of Manuel de Falla for Rafael Amargo’s Company for the premiere in Navarra and for the entire season of the show in the Albéniz Theater in Madrid. She also conducted the “Filarmonía Barcelona” Orchestra for the season of the same show at the Tívoli Theater in Barcelona. Edith comes from a family of educators and she began teaching at a very early age. She has been involved in teaching music for almost 30 years. She has done vocal coaching for renowned singing artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Ella Baila Sola, Amaya Montero( Oreja de Van goth), Bimba Bosé, Roser, Merche Corisco (Spain), Divine, Calle ciega, Estación Central (Venezuela), etc. She was also a Professor at the ‘Ritmo y Compás’ School, at the ‘Escuela Creativa’ and the musician’s workshop in Madrid and was director of the choir in the latter for 4 years. She taught vocal techniques and was Deputy Director in the Spanish TV show "Operación triunfo" in its 2005 and 2006 seasons, with vast media coverage. She is currently recording her next album, editing a book of poems, writing a book of short stories and preparing a short film in which she will write the screenplay and try her talent as a director.
